| "Thus the strong arm tactics," Betty says. "So you grab the book and
change the way events could have folded out into something hopefully less
dangerous."
"And they would have changed no matter what," Romana says softly, gulping
her tea to calm herself, "Though why I have no earthly idea."
The Time Lords and Companions get up and go out to study the game board
outside the TARDIS, and Betty and Ragan suddenly nods as the clues before
him click together.
"There are two of them," Betty says, pointing at the figurine of the
third Doctor and Bessie already on the board and then to the figurine of
Doctor Who. "I was wondering about that."
"About whether or not a Champion's personal time line....as it were
could be monkeyed with?" Ragan says to her analog sister, "Well, looks
like that question was answered. And the answer is: 'You can't.'"
The Time Lords look at them in askance, then Dr. Who blinks in comprehension.
"Apparently when whoever used the Time Scoop in my universe tried to
Scoop my past versions of myself," Doctor Who explains, "couldn't get the
machine to quiet get it right due to.....some interference due to some
rather powerful.....associates of mine that I'll tell you about in just
a moment. Instead, the Scoop malfunctioned....and dragged forth parallel
versions of myself and scooped THEM instead. Apparently, any type of time
tampering in that regard is impossible. You just get parallel people, instead."
"But things changed from the story," Betty put in, "In The Five Doctors
the Fourth Doctor was stuck in the Vortex. We also got Scooped along with
him....and that must have knocked us all to the very chamber where Borusa....at
least it was Borusa back on the show.....was controlling things. All for
a chance for immortality from Rassilon.....but who got a rather bad end
instead at the show's end."
The Time Lords look at each other in shock, and then over at Betty who
basically accused the President of the Supreme Council of a VERY serious
crime. They look like they want to ask more about this, when.....
Betty and Ragan then noticed several other differences. They point to
several Sontarans figurines that are next to figurines of the First Doctor,
Susan, a Dalek, and......
