The Never Ending Quest - episode 14442

"Morden is ALIVE?!" Londo gags. Oops, from his reaction, you get the distinct impression that Londo isn't pleased. "I thought he had died under the cliffs on Narn!"

"Actually, we took him aboard, after we rescued your friends from those Shadows." Scott says, coming from the side. "At first, we thought he was also a prisoner of the Shadow, but events proved to show that this man was NO prisoner. He was more of a quisling, he was!"

It looks like Londo is about to have a conniption, but then Dr. McCoy comes up from the turbo lift, shaking his head. You can tell that he caught the tail end of the conversation, because of what he says next.

"Quisling or not, it's a moot point." McCoy says. "Captain, Mr. Morden is in no condition for anything in the way of a rational conversation. Hell, I'd count him lucky to be able to eat solid food!"

"Bones, what happened?" Kirk asks, shocked. "How did it happen? What did you do?"

"I did NOTHING, Captain." McCoy says, in a huff. "It's what the Shadows did to HIM."

"You're saying that the Shadows broke it's connection with Morden?" Londo asks, fascinated in spite of himself. "I've never heard of that happening before!"

"Burnt earth policy, I think." you say. "They somehow knew that the Enterprise had Morden, were worried that the Enterprise, with all the unknowns she represents, could compromise their thrall. So, they cut the cord, and whenever a thrall's connection is cut . . . ."

"Madness is the outcome." Spock says solemnly.

"These are not nice people, Captain." Londo says. "They can appear helpful, but before you know it, you almost owe your soul to them!" McCoy visibly changes gears, then talks about their Borg guest.

"Hugh, the Borg, has the most advanced cybernetics I've ever laid my eyes on . . . . with the ocular implants that Morden has a VERY close second. Morden can see some very strange things with those suckers he has, but HUGH . . . .! I've never seen such versatile stuff! And the stuff he told me about engineering, just in PASSING! Things about . . . .Transwarp?"

"Transwarp?!" Scotty scoffs. "That has been knocking about the Engineering circuit for a while, but I'na heard of anyone successfully doing anythin' wi it. It's a joke!"

"I'm not so sure of that, Scotty." a familiar female voice, Uhura's, says from over by the computer terminal at the Science Station. "While I was listening in of some signals floating around, I heard a few mentionings on Jumpgates and Jumppoints. I came across a program on Centauri Prime, some type of educational program, that mentioned the basics of those things, and . . . .Darned if some of it didn't sound familiar . . . . like quiet a few things relate to what I DEAL with on a daily basis on my job here! And I just ran a few calculations through the computer, now that I'm off duty . . . ." You and quiet a few Enterprise crew just stare at Uhura in shock. It seems like, for a large part of the early episodes of Star Trek, the only thing that Uhura was was a glorified telephone operator. For her to show signs of THIS . . . .is surprising! You get the feeling that this behavior on Uhura's part is rather rare, by the way that her crew mates are acting.

"Please explain, Ma'am." Londo says, smiling. "I'd like to hear this, if the rest of you don't mind." Uhura smiles uneasily back (yep, those teeth again), and with a questioning glance at Kirk (who gives a small nod, does so.

"Well, I'm a little rusty on some of the math, but I triple checked it, and it worked each time." Uhura says. "Mr. Spock, if you want to check it over, I'd not really mind. Anyway, the subspace relay, I figured could do something similar in opening up a Jump Point and . . . . ." Uhura goes into a long, and technical summary of her theory. Scotty and the rest of the Enterprise seem to understand what she's saying, but darned if you (and from the look on Londo's face) and Londo can follow it!

"Uhura! You're a genius!" Scotty laughs, pounding the rail in front of him. "Why didna I think of that! It's so bloody OBVIOUS!"

"Indeed, I to find myself . . . . wondering why I never saw it, either." Spock says "Good work, Lt. Uhura. If we ever get back to our universe, I'll make sure that Star Fleet learns of what you've come up with here."

Uhura looks a touch pleased (and a little embarrassed) at the praise. Spock checks over the calculations, and pronounces them "adequate." (High praise from a Vulcan, actually).

Now, people are running off to do various things, while there is something you an do right now......

  1. Maybe you can suggest that the Enterprise pay a visit to Bablyon 5.......
  2. Maybe you want to to go down to Centauri Prime . . . . see a few sights (as a few person......)
