"You found a cure and it's in that tube there," Astra 3 says knowingly,
smiling at Fred 3.
"Close, but no cigar," chortles Probe. "This is something LIKE a cure,
but not really."
"It's all my idea," Dr. Vincent (the living one) smiles. "See, I got
the idea from Inquirer's tales of scientist combining DNA with microbes
to produce insulin and other needed body chemicals. What I did was have
the computer and Inquirer create a synthetic organism to home in on a vital
key component in the DNA of the Phage. There, it will secrete two chemicals.
One is a chemical that the Phage needs in order to thrive and reproduce.
The other is a sequence of molecules that mimic the ones found and produced
in microscopic amounts that'll keep the Phage from killing any more humans,
while still being deadly to the Lizards."
"We also found the cure….the actual cure for the Phage," Inquirer puts
in to the assembled people (there physically or there by magic mirror).
"But we want to keep the Phage around to just twist the dagger into the
Enemy just a little more before we bomb them back into oblivion! After
we kill the SOBs to the last wretched scale, we'll then realease the cure,
and kill the Phage, permantly."
"The real good thing about this," Probe says, holding up the vial. "Is
that it can survive on it's own, without the Phage, and will be around
if we ever come across another strain of it….out in the multiverse. See,
it attacks a key element not easily overcome, and as such is even better
than the actual cure!"
"Damn, you've been busy," Fred 5 smiles, impressed. "And all this on
the same day that the mages are ready to cure Fred 4 and his family AND
help my Astra and my kids!"
"That c-section idea and incubator was a stroke of genius," Alicia 2
smiles, looking up at the tall female AI/Golem.
Inquirer feels herself blushing……
"Then, after we get the mages back up to par again…..we strike out at
Zerm," Queen Astra says grimly. "He has much to answer for….including kidnapping
a family member….."
-
Later in the after noon,
a spell set to signal the great Zerm the Unspeakable of the death of the
Phage, fails to go off. However, the Phage is well as dead as far as the
rest of humanity is concerned….
