"I can't explain it," Praxithea thinks back. (If Belboz had known anything
about the possibility of alternate realities, where another Belboz might
exist, then he had never spoken of it to her.) She goes on: "I find it
hard to believe that he would do such a thing, but if he did then he must
have had a very good reason."
She can feel in her mind the hostility from Tithorea that her defence of Belboz has caused, overpowering at least for the time being the growing feeling of sisterhood that the two had been sharing. Praxithea tries to communicate again, but Tithorea seems to have shut her out. Just when I thought things couldn't get any worse, she muses sadly. Perhaps her anger will wear off given time, and she will be willing to 'speak' to me again. I've got nothing else to look forward to - unless Belboz can rescue me, and I know how difficult that would be. Meanwhile she continues to dance, of course, long hair flying and breasts jiggling. The dancing is not only compulsive, but is also very enjoyable and satisfying at some deep, instinctual level. Her rational mind realises that this enjoyment has been imposed on her, but it doesn't mean that she can do anything about it. And at least she will never tire, but will always feel as full of energy as she does now.
