"Well, the Crystallic has been used, and as a result I've been able to trace it," Arkas tells the demifoxes. "And hence I know where Synizn is now, and where D'Honaire and Astra are assuming that they are still with him. They are at an abandoned inn on the outskirts of town. Now we'll have to be very careful when we move in. There are more rumours than facts known about Synizn, but he must be a very competent mage. And the Crystallic will give him almost god-like powers. I suggest that we wait until the small hours, when with any luck he will be asleep. Hopefully he won't realise that I've been able to trace him, and so won't be too much on his guard. We'll try and break in without waking him up."

"So you're coming with us?" Ringroot asks. He had rather expected Arkas to want to remain out of harm's way.

"Well, you may need some magical help. Besides, I want to get the Crystallic back myself. No offence, Ringroot, but it could be very dangerous in untrained hands. You want the werefoxes, or whatever they are, and you're welcome to them so long as I can have the Crystallic."

  1. So at three in the morning a group of twenty demifoxes, together with Arkas, surround the inn and wait for the signal to move in. All seems quiet.
