Later…..
Astra la Post, crowned Queen of Aqualaria, looks speculatively after
the departing old woman who is the Oracle.
Initially, she'd been honored to have been graced with the Holy One's
presence, but…..something wasn't quiet….right.
Oh, the greeting had been correct…..the phrases right, but……
"I don't trust that old witch as far as I could throw her," Willian
mutters towards Astra.
Astra looks at her husband sharply, about to break into an unseemly
argument in front of the gathered of the court, when…..she nods in agreement.
Something about the departing Oracle did strike her as being….untrustworthy.
And she had the funniest suspicion, as the Oracle had glanced around
at the guards and the Court wizard at the side, that…..the crone was assessing
the situation.
And why would an Oracle, a true divine conduit of the dieties of Aqualaria,
make the mistake of coming to see the Queen when something truelly monumental
called for the Oracle to leave her Temple, instead of one of the lower
classes-a minor prophet or some such-deliver the message.
Either it was deadly important…..or……
It could be a ruse?
-
As soon as she could do
it gracefully, Astra and Willian retired to their library study.
