Carradene just shakes his shaggy grey furred head, just watching the
various Synizn analogs argue with the manbear Synizn about the choice he
just made. In the meantime, the two demi-fox Astra's are still snoring
away like……what did that puppet man call it…..a pair of out of tune buzzsaws.
The human Astra had poked her head in at those sounds, given off a rueful
laugh at the whole deal, and had left. The human and this world's Astra
(the love of Willian), were quietly reflecting on past events. How the
Astras, Freds, and this whole barking mess would work out…..remained to
be seen. What was of interest to the old wolf was the argument before him.
"I said I do not want to be a dragon again," the manbear stated
calmly to his aghast offworld brothers. "At first…..I….did, but now…..I'd
lose more than I'd gain. I'm a member of the Pack…..and wish to remain
so."
The flame haired hillman/werebear just stares at his counterpart like
the manbear just began to speak in tongues.
"But…..why?" the mountainman finally gasps. "With three Crystallics
at our disposal…..we could easily……"
"You could easily break my connection to the Pack…..and basically break
everything I've come to care for," the manbear states calmly. "I may be
limited to a tiny fraction of life now, but those years will be filled
with happiness….comradery…..a since of fellowship that I've never….experienced
before.
"Look," the manbear continues. "When we were hatched, we had no real
understanding of what it was like to have a brother or a sister to love
and cherish. I thought I finally understood when I joined the Circle, but….that
was just deep friendship for most….which bordered on a different kind of
love for Malachi…..more than a few times there."
The manbear sees a look of pain, and longing for dearly departed leaders
of the Circle…..their Dragon Circle's Leader: Malachi from their
worlds. What could have been will always be with them.
"I finally understand now," Synizn the manbear sighs. "It came soon
after I began to understand how much I cared for my friends on that quest
to find a cure……for something I no longer wish to be cured . . . . .for
I am not sick…..and have nothing to be cured."
"Plus," Carradene butts in, sensing his brother Packmember could use
a hand here. "We of the Pack now have a deeper understanding of the other.
Before, we had empathy. It prevented out and out fights between Packmembers,
but we still had a chance for conflict….thus was how the Council and the
Packleader came to be. The Council members were made of those who wished
to represent their families concerns. The Packleader was their to not only
lead, but to act as a tiebreaker and referee of sorts. Oh, we still have
arguments…..but we will never…..break up. Even the rift I feared failed
to materialize between Pro-Carradene factions and Pro-Fred faction when
the truth of what I actually had done somehow came to light. Fred is still
Pack Leader, and I'm happy that the young fox is still that." (re: 1308)
"Many minds but one heart," sighs Malachi from her magic mirror. "I
guess we both made our choices, dear friend."
The demi-fox Synizn looks up at his werebear counterpart, and sighs.
"Brother," the demi-fox sighs. "Through your training of the mind, you
have been able to retain you draconian connections the most…..but you also
have missed out….on what walking in a human's shoes really is like. I….am
not totally human, and while under the curse you still have, prayed for
nothing more than a miracle! Tiamat seemed to send my release in the form
of two wonderful humans, my Astra and my Fred. Through them, I have seen
parts of humanity I never dreamed existed.
"It's a shame that you've only seen the ass end of the world while in
Walants. You never got to see how noble….those chesspieces could become.
Humans shouldn't…..be used as chesspieces. You have much to learn.
The werebear feels a sudden chill run down his spine. These people are
him….but not him. It was like looking into a mirror, and not seeing the
person you expected. The werebear bites back the first five things his
curse would have him say or do, and quickly helps to finish what he and
his compatriots have begun with these demi-fox Astras.
As the finishing touches are done and the last kit delivered and begins
to howl in fear at suddenly finding himself in a strange place, the Synizns
are mommentarily blinded as their Crystallics give off a bright flash.
"What was that?!" one of the Freds yelp.
"I don't know!" growls the Synizn together, rubbing their eyes.
Somewhere on a former slagheap, a grey furred wolf is rubbing his eyes
because of the flash the trinket he had found on Moreau just temporarily
blinded him…….

Well, that was interesting......
