"Who are you people?!" the manfox in front of them gasps.
Fred's eyes goggle before he attempts an answer. It's not that the speaker
appears to be a large version of his intermediate form when he was a demi-fox.
It's not the outlandish, primitive appearing but strangely complimenting
stone, feather, and leather jewelry that causes the hesitation. Why these
beastmen are dressed up like some type of American Indian is beyond him,
but is not important right now. The fact that the apparently dead body
of Minestus is behind them isn't what is boggling Fred (but is sure doing
that for Astra and Synizn)! It is the fact that…..his own voice came from
the foxman's throat!
"Lord Frederigo D'Honaire is my name." Fred says quietely. "This is
my wife: Astra D'Honaire. My sort friend is the Mage Synizn. And to his
left is the Innkeeper….Sigin."
"Sigin?" the manbear whispers in shock. He stumbles over to the staring
Sigin, who seems to….recognize something in the manbear's suddenly tearing
eyes. "I thought that you had died in that ambush set by the Golems!!"
"Synizn?" Sigin asks unsteadily, looking back and forth between the
demi-fox (who is looking sandbagged) and back at the manbear in front of
him. His draconian senses say that this is Synizn…..yet it says the same
for the demi-fox! "I….what do you mean about Golems?!"
The groups start to talk to each other, and for the next few minutes
a babbling choas take place. Finally, the demi-fox Synizn shouts for order!
"People!" he says in a high, piping voice. "We need to get organized
here! Apparently my friends somehow got dragged here by a version of Minestus,
but we need to get into a defensible position!"
"We've got company!" the man in green and brown shouts. He's aiming
some type of crossbow like weapon at a spot in the foggy mist beyond this….spot
on a roadway.
Probe suddenly blinks in surprise, and lowers his weapon. Fred resists
the urge to grab for his sword when he sees the man's eyes are glowing
red! If his mage friend isn't worried, then he won't either!
Actually, the demi-fox Synizn is worried about the strange man. He doesn't
even smell like a man but if his bear man analog--who is trusted by Sigin
(who does)--is trusts this…..golem…..he will also. How such a thing happened,
this trust, is beyond the demi-fox, but not the issue right now…..
"More analogs?" the golem says in a wonderous voice.
The manfox Fred suddenly growls (yes growls) and his hackles are up
as a man leading a warcharger comes into view. The vixen and several other
of the beastmen are also clearly angry at the sight of this man.
"Father?!" human Frederigo gasps. "What in God's name are YOU doing
here? I thought you were paying a visit to the surviving members of mother's
side of the family!"
Three pairs of eyes blink in confusion. One pair belongs to the Duke
of Suffex. The other pairs belongs to the couple that just became apparent
with a slight lifting of the fog!
