A Digression About Demifoxes

The Never Ending Quest - episode 19525

Before we find out what questions Synizn is going to ask the enchanted Rush Shabot, perhaps this would be an opportune time for a brief excursion concerning the nature of demifoxes. Most analog worlds to Terra Prime have a race of demifoxes, creatures who look like humanoid foxes and who walk on their hind-legs. Since a cross between human and fox could not occur naturally, it is likely that the species arose, like a number of others, from magical experiments by the ancient Atlanteans.

The species was originally non-lycanthropic - by which is meant that demifoxes could not change their form nor transform others into demifoxes. However on Terra Prime and some of its close analogs, the dragon-mage Minestus created a race of what might be called neo-lycanthropic demifoxes, and these superseded the original race. These creatures could choose to adopt any one of three forms. One was that of a fox. Another was that of youngish boys or girls in facial appearance (though the female was voluptuous in her figure); in this form they stood at three feet tall, had a ruby complex (females being less pronounced by far), fox ears sticking through a mop of unruly hair, and a fox tail. Their intermediate form between those two extremes was that of a humanoid fox very similar to the original demifox race. To protect unborn young, pregnant females could not change their form. One great advantage that neo-lycanthropy conferred on demifoxes was the power to quickly regenerate from even the severest of injuries. Neo-lycanthropic demifoxes could transform humans and some other races into demifoxes by infecting them with the condition, by a bite injecting saliva or through some other exchange of bodily fluids. Note that unlike traditional lycanthropy, a demifox's form was normally under his or her conscious control and it had no connection to the phase of the moon. For further information, see http://terraprimedatabase.com/TerranRaces.htm

When Demifox Synizn and a few other demifoxes residing on Terra Prime were amongst the group made Champions of the Rules and Agents, their neo-lycanthropy was neutralised, though they retained the abilities to change between their three forms and to recover from injuries very rapidly. Like the other Champions, they also became immortal. By agreement with the Rules and Agents, they had their "cure" done in such a way that the other neo-lycanthropic demifoxes of Terra Prime - who were generally shunned by human beings - would also benefit. The "cure" was designed so that it would spread very rapidly throughout the demifox community through a means similar to that of a cold.

An open question is how this "cure", still active within Synizn and Andrea, will react to the non-lycanthropic demifoxes of this world. Is the cure able to distinguish between neo-lycanthropic and non- lycanthropic types of demifox, or will it go about turning the mundane demifoxes into the Terra Prime brand? Will the mundame demifoxes suddenly find themselves with the ability to shape-shift and to regenerate and heal from wounds?

  1. So now back to the plot, with Synizn asking Rush Shabot a few questions.
