Do hope that at least one of our opponents survives so we can ask
him questions.....

Well, if nothing else these soldiers gave a good accounting for themselves. That's about the only good thing I can say for them. Quiet a few peasants got injured by them before we could stop these thugs (who's wounds are being attended to right now via magical healings). They had been more than adequate on horseback to slaughter an entire
village and the two or three fighters afoot, but not enough when you added
us
into the mix.
While the wounded are being tended, I see that Cederick, Velus, and
the satyres are quietly speaking. From what I can hear (remember, I have
sharper ears than what I enjoyed as a human being), Cederik had not initially
noticing Fred and Astra's faces. He has a good excuse - I don't suppose
I would do any better myself in those circumstances. When you see a pair
of satyrs enter, you tend not to consider the possibility that these are
the same people who you saw as humans no more than a minute earlier. More
to the point, in Fred the satyrs case, he looks rather different with that
wild beard and hair he now has so I guess that's a good point as well.
That said, I guess that now that he's actually gotten a good look he can
see that their faces are identical to what they were before. I suppose
Cederik could think that if these are some sort of evil magical creatures
then the familiar faces might have been adopted to confuse him.....but
by now such mistaken impressions have been dispelled.
The detailed recounting of how they had freed Cederick just couldn't
be extracted from a captured Fred and Astra in the minute they'd gone,
so the only thing that Cederick and Velus could conclude is that these
satyrs were who they said they were.
I also learn of the fact that not only did Cederick recognize the leader
of the thugs, but Fred did as well.
It appears my second suspicion about who these soldiers' allegiance
lay was correct..
One more item of evidence in our case against Emry, this is. Very serious busines it is. Kind of makes the questions of who shall I (and my new "sister")
date after all this is said and done small indeed. Of all the likely candidates
out there in the realm of the demifox, I kind of am torn between the still
young and idealistic Star Fleeterm, Eric Solomon, and the more worldly
and wise demifoxes, Demifox Synizn, Synizn, Synizn 2. I and my sister find
charming features in all of them and now that we've graduated......
......
....er.....Always had been something of the romantic. Kind of accounts
for how I am today.....
Don't know what exactly brought that on. Astra the satyr had said privately
to me a bit before we'd left that he had "raw sex appeal" (which has no
affect on her or me, btw). The mind just seized on that and went off on
a tangent.....
Hrmph. Anyway, Cederick and Velus seem to have a harder time with the
explanation of who we are, but they'll accept it at face value for
now, if only for the sake of keeping valuable allies in the quest to put
the rightful ruler on the throne.
In a few hours, a contingent of soldiers (dejectedly expecting to arrive
only to find burnt out ruins) lead by none other than the lord of this
land himself arrive to see what the matter is (some villagers had gone
running and finally got word to him). This lord is expecting bloodthirsty
bandits or some other heinous group's crimes. Cederick smiles when he sees
the lord is stunned to see......
