"Not much time," he mutters hurriedly....
See, the crutch of the problem that was worrying Zerm had all to do
about to do with a certain King of the Faire Folk and a certain
Queen of the Light Elves. From scrying and brief encounters with these
two powerful beings, he had learned that some rogue mage had learned and
utilized magical spells that were the purview (according to those esteem,
immortal beings) of them.....
Dan Fogelberg, aka The Oracle, had known that it wasn't allowed
but anyone but those powerful beings to create those of fairy....not even
the of who he would be enraging would sway him.....
He'd shown so much potential in Zerm's eyes before the villain's true
nature had been revealed. Zerm had ceased all magical lessons, and kicked
Dan out on his rear. . . . Zerm was less than pleased to learn that somehow
the SOB had somehow learned Atlantian magery from some other source. Perhaps
from one of the Antithesis.... or maybe that one annoying Demon? Ronald
Forest or something like that? Definitely an "RF". The Demon wasn't really
much compared to It's superiors, but the powers it picked up in the Mortal
realms...while not useful against his Bosses (mortal magic wielded by Demonic
beings was useless against their peers) ....was....dangerous. May all the
Gods and Goddesses above help them all if that disgruntled Demon ever got
to remember everything it had learned in prior....er.....lives ("lives"
for want of a better word.....Demons are undying....except under very special
circumstances....or so Zerm had heard). Whatever the case, that Elfin Queen
and that Fairy King were after that insane Oracle....and Zerm wished them
luck in that endeavor....
The problem was in that pixie who had been named Fred (who knows what
the poor fellow was now named....Zerm hadn't the time to check). Since
this pixie came about due to in part due to the Oracle's monkey business
(Zerm had seen the tell tale signs all over the pixie's Matrix)....this
Unseelie Curse business now involved at least Oberon!
Oberon, being of the Seelie Court, wasn't evil....but the means that
he'd use to prevent the Unseelie Court were....er.....well.... draconian.
There was still a link between the pixie and the rest of the accursed and
the sudden deaths of the others would.....well, the shock would be severe
to the guy. The one time that Zerm had seen the result wasn't pleasant
at all. Oh, the fairy lived....but all memory prior to the trauma was lost.....permanently.
That and it took such a long time for the fairy to recover enough to even
be halfway normal.....
No, Zerm didn't want to stand by and let this happen to this noble pixie....who'd
actually rather impressed Zerm by his courage and his strength. Lesser
people would have succumbed or cracked under the pressure.
Zerm had thought that things had been well in hand when he'd let those
adventurers go off on their duty. Who'd have known that the cause of the
changes in the Unseelie Curse had been, as far as Zerm could see, the very
inclusion of the pixie during that one critical time when that rare....rare
spell had been cast.....
Now, this was a race against time. Hopefully, Oberon wouldn't come immediately
to the birth of the new fairy (the final transition sent out shockwaves
that Oberon would feel from wherever he was in the multiverse....alas).
From what he'd heard, the King of the Fairy had grown.....to appreciate
the treasure he had been ignoring in his wife....and was frankly now doting
on her (much to her delight).
But eventually he would come.
That was problematic enough, but also there was the fact that....the
pixie had mentioned that sad duty his new friends would have to do in case
they'd failed (like it now looked to them like they had, surely). If they
started killing those still accursed....it would put to paid any chance
of saving those still able to be saved.....by reversing the curse. Oh,
some were beyond help already....but Zerm was sure he was up to the task.....
Zerm had to wonder, briefly, if these adventurers could grow tired from
all this business. Races against time. Yet another wrong needing to be
righted.... He then chuckled and sighed. These were of a rare breed of
of intelligent beings who'd never....ever be satisfied for long without
having something going wrong around them....something that they were needed
to yet again to step in and make right. It was in their very being...once
that characteristic was set into their souls....it would never....ever
be able to be erased or changed. Zerm had only met such people on a handful
of occasions....but they did exist.... Heck, even in the Afterlife, they'd
soon opt to join the crew that went out to do basically what they had done
in life.....
That said....
