Under the gun...

The Never Ending Quest - episode 16683

Putting Two and Two Together....

Meanwhile, back on Terra Prime, Dr. Vincent has just looked over (magically speaking) the still unconscious and bound Unseelie Fred....

"So that's why they wanted me to translate those Atlantian coordinates!" Dr. Vincent mutters absentmindedly to himself, mind making connections, "That and why they are always in a hurry. It's the only thing that it could....."

Vincent then turns suddenly to look down at the two elves (who'd been looking at each other in concern over the mage/scientists increasingly odd behavior). The eccentric human then mumbles to himself, nods, and turns to the elves. He then looks down at a list of the coordinates he'd translated and his face goes a bit pale as he remembers what he'd seen of the one world the group had not gone to yet.

"And by any chance did you come from the coordinates....." Dr. Vincent, after composing himself, begins to ask.

He translates coordinates where he had sent Jarlath's group.

The elfin Timelords blink in surprise, wondering briefly just where and when this man had learned the coordinates of where the TARDIS come from. The coordinates lacked a bit compared to what Timelords used, but.....

"That is the coordinates we had departed from," K-9 says in his calm, metallic voice.

"Oh.....that's just perfect!" the old man mutters as he storms over to the controls of the transporter system he'd built.

"What?" the Doctor asks, worried almost sick. "What's wrong?"

"Everything if I'm right," Vincent says while bringing online a feature he'd not really....tested yet.

He then quickly explained the problem about a place called Rift Earth (a place he'd have tried to warn Jarlath's group off from going there on a casual lark) and what effect it would have on those exposed to this Unseelie curse.

Not having quiet gotten that far into his magical lessons from Romana (been a bit sidetracked by the honeymoon night and...er....subsequent nights), it took an aghast Romana to quickly fill in.

"Is...it too late?" the Doctor whispers, ears perked up in fright.

"I....don't think so," Dr. Vincent says, and then pauses to look down at the elves.

"By the way....you said something about this curse...er....changed your ears and such?" he begins, "I'm not sure exactly what kind of elves you are, now. You say it's not yet complete, whatever happened. Similar to the elves I know on Terra Prime....."

"According to my data files provided by the Doctor," K-9 puts in, ears waggling as a mechanical shuffling sound comes from within him, "They are Light Elves."

The mechanical dog then goes on a bit to about the Light Elves and their connection to the German version of the Seelie Court.

"Uh, that's enough and thanks," Dr. Vincent interrupts the canine robot and turns back to the elves, "Point being.....continue not using your magical powers....no matter how painful it gets. That and don't rename yourselves....."

"Timelords don't rename themselves easily," Romana butts in, "Even when they're not technically Timelords any more. But we get the point. A bit of magic and we put to paid any chance at aiding this Fred....and anyone else effected by it!"

She waves at her body and wiggles her ears to get the point across. Vincent got the feeling that the name stumbling block wouldn't be a problem here, somehow, for these strange elves.

The teleporter begins to start to send a signal to the Key that Jarlath has. The teleporter almost seems to pause as it detects two Keys with the same signature (one on the world that the Doctor had just left and one on Nantucket Earth), but it then goes and contacts the one who's communicator circuits still are intact.

"Should have told him about this feature," Vincent mutters, seeing just why the others probably hadn't told him about this problem.

Even he admitted he got distracted and went off on tangents sometimes..... He'd been thinking about a new project in the back of his mind when he'd been talking about how to work the Key with the newlyweds.....and had skipped that one feature.....

But in this case, it would have been so much better....

On an Earthlike world in another reality.....

The others pause in consternation as Jarlath's Key continues to beep.

"Well, aren't you going to answer it?" Fred the Pixie asks, remembering from his time as Freddi what that cell phone sounded like of hers....

"Uh.....right," Jarlath says.

"Jarlath! You're looking in the wrong place for that Unseelie afflicted!" Dr. Vincent says excitedly through the Key, "He got taken back here! Get back to the Landing Zone as quickly as possible!"

As the other look at each other in consternation as they rush back to the Landing Zone, Dr. Vincent explained about one world called Rifts Earth.....a world he'd viewed through scrying after translating the Atlantian coordinates.

"You have something like three days....." the good Dr. Vincent begins, only to blink in consternation when he hears about the odd acceleration that made that deadline even sooner.

"At least the Doctor's TARDIS back in Nantucket is making an otherwise impossible task only difficult," Dr. Vincent sighs as the adventurers appear on the teleporter pad.

He'd put hurt feelings to the side for later. The task at hand was more important.

Nary a world said as the elfin Doctor and the others board (Unseelie Fred still bound) the pad and appear back on Nantucket Earth.

"We don't have much time," Fred the pixie whispers, dread in his voice.

  1. Something deep inside him made him wonder if it wasn't already too late.....
