Fred steps forward, smiling a little bit to himself. It figures that
this young man would catch on to that little complication. The young Scribe
had shown potential when Fred had appointed him to record the history of
the Pack. He had pointed out that though he and the generations of werefolk
had been able to read what Fred had been written, though it should NOT
have been possible. Carradene's tests had concluded that an interesting
factor in the dragon's geas against reading was to blame. Fred had been
amazed to find out that, when applied to werefolk who had never been taught
to read, automatically GAINED the ability to read. Fred had been even more
amazed when it was revealed that.....all written language (barring coded
messages) were understandable to ALL members (present and future) of the
Pack! Carradene had half joked to an amazed Fred that this is why he had
initially gone into the field of magic. It was just amazing how it worked
out, sometimes.
"Lynx, I believe that the answer is obvious," Fred says. "What we CAN'T
get from the corpse of the dragon, we probably can get from from the monster's
lab notes, hopefully. A cure for the Plague, and possibly for our lycanthropy....
"Now, I know that not all the Pack would want to be cured," Fred conceded.
"Those who had been born to the form of the werefolk....probably are more
than comfortable with your bodies. However, some of us would like to return
to the forms that WE were born to."
A thoughtful murmur went through the Pack.
"Now, I and a few volunteers will go out in search of Minestus' lab,"
Fred says to a startled Pack. "We will go back to the Kingdom since that
was the last place I know of where Minestus was. Now, this is what is called
in the book of Dragonslayer a 'longshot' but I am honor bound to try to
find these cures.....and to take care of some.....unfinished business."
After the firestorm of questions that Fred's announcement brings dies
down as Fred patiently answers, Loam nods to himself. The silver furred
werewolf had wondered how the news of Fred leaving the Pack would be handled.
"Now, after much consideration," finishes Fred, noting that the Moon
was halfway through it's trek through the night sky. "I have decided who
will succeed me. I was going to give my answer....after the last full moon,
I feel that now is an excellent time. I name Loam as my successor."
