And soon the Moon rises and shines her soft light on the awaiting Pack
members. The various lycanthrope types have split up into their were-clans.....foxes
with foxes.....bears with bears and so forth. Willian and Astra barricade
themselves in a room, to weather out the night.
Some had heard whispered rumors heard from second and third hand accounts
about how tonight of all nights might be different for the Pack than it
had been for the last three hundred odd years since the dragon had began
his "experiment." Most however, had not heard anything. Yes, they all had
memories of strangeness on the last full Moon, but for the most part had
finally dismissed it as an overactive imagination brought on by the stress
and confusion of their flight from Moreau's isle. No, discussion of what
happens during the night of the full Moon is a well established Pack taboo.
Not only is it embarrassing, it brought back old, painful memories. Memories
of new Packmembers who, during the light of the full Moon, permanently
losing their grasp on humanity, and joining the ranks of the Forsaken.
So, what happens next is shocking, even for those who had a clue that something
was coming.
Moran and his family members look at each other in amazement, and then
up at the Moon, still rising slowly but clearly visible in the night sky.
All had felt their bodies shudder, denoting the beginning of the Change,
but....that was all. No clouding of the mind! No warping of their humanoid
body into that of the animals they looked like.
"What in Heaven's name is this?" whispers Moran in awe.
