| Astra examined the area where the portal had been, but it was now indistinguishable
from the rest of the meadow. There seemed no point in remaining there any
longer, and she certainly didn't want to return to the swamp, so she headed
across the field.
Though she had done her best to brush away the mud that had clung to her from the swamp, she could not wholly get rid of its foetid odour, and would not be able to until she had had an opportunity to bathe. So when she saw a small but deep pool of clear water on the far side of the field, she was less cautious than she might ordinarily have been about wading in.
