...It was morning. Whilst it had not been the most comfortable place
to spend the night, Fred had developed the ability to sleep well in far
worse spots than this, and he felt surprisingly refreshed. Maybe the drink
from the Crystallic had had something to do with how well he felt. Tarin
had obviously had had some previous experience of tying people up. The
knots had defied his attempts to pick them, but had not been so tight as
to inhibit his circulation.
Rift was making breakfast. Whilst the four of them ate, Rift checked,
not for the first time, on how long it would take to get to Minestus's
lair. "About four or five days," Fred told him. "Then we had better soon
get started," said Rift. "The sooner we get there, the sooner you can be
freed. I know you have a map of this area, but I'll need you for the last
bit underground, if I'm to find the lair. I'll have to have Tarin untie
you both so that you can ride, but I shall be riding my horse right behind
yours, so no funny business, unless you want to find out just what an untrained
person might be able to do to you using your little gadget."

No
opportunity to reclaim the Crystallic presents itself for some time.
