"We can't just sit around here and watch this happen," sighs Malachi,
ears twitching in annoyance. "But every time we try to approach one of
the patrols looking for us.....they try to kill us!"
"And only your powers of magic allow us to escape unscathed," chuckles
Fred as he scratches Malachi behind her ears. A glazed look of pleasure
passes over the former dragnoness' face, and she leans against Fred. She
then sighs.
"This....is not what I envisioned for the rest of my days," murmurs
Malachi, snuggling up to Fred. "I always thought the great love of my life
would be.....a member of my Dragon Circle. Hell, I was expecting it to
at least be a DRAGON....but now that I've found you....I'm happy."
"Same here, my golden one," whispers Fred. "This shared fate of being
a were-fox is easier....with you."
The foxes muzzle each other, brush the others cheek ruffs, and their
tails intertwine......
Later.....feeling much better.....
"The way we carry on sometimes," the former dragoness sighs. "It's almost
like a bad romance story. Not that I'm complaining, but....."
"Yes," Fred chuckles. "Isn't it, though."
Fred suddenly grows thoughtful, and snaps his fingers (hard to do when
the hands in question are tipped with blunt cannine claws).
"Speaking about bad romance stories," grins Fred with a foxy grin. "There's
this one former Princess out there that I think I can at least get a message
across, even if I have to use a two by four to do it!

Fred watch as the vixen known as Alicia again comes to the bay where
she had last seen Fred. Again, she calls out Fred's name, as if she wants
to talk with him.....begging him to come.
Even if I was willing, little Alicia, Fred thinks to himself
from cover....next to Malachi. I just don't trust you enough, now. You
went off and got me and my love in trouble, and that forevermore puts a
nix on any type of meaningful relationship we could have had....kits or
no!
But I can provide you and the rest of the Pack the means of escape!
Fred continues. Even when you tried to hunt me and Malachi down!
Fred squeezes Malachi's hand gently, and the golden vixen nods.....
Alicia looks forlornly about, trying to at least catch a sent or sight
of Frederigo D'Honaire, when a piece of parchment pops out of thin air
and plasters itself on the startled vixens face. She tears it off and finds,
it's written by Fred!
Dearest Alicia,
I give to you and the Pack....the same beast men who turned on me
in a most hostile manner when the noble dragonness Malachi tried to lend
aid.....a means of escape.
Now, you may or may not believe the "traitor" from Suffex, but I
must at least try....for honors sake! The ship that the pirates came in,
if packed to the rafters and that pathetic excuse of a fleet of escape
ships I saw down at that cave are tied up to her, the Pack can get away
to safety if they sail due EAST! From there, the Pack can find a bunch
of islands where they could settle down....move on....or whatever they
damn well please!
As for you and I, even with the possiblity of a kit, there is no
longer a "you and I." After much consideration, and soul searching, I've
come to the conclusion that things will never...EVER....work out for us.
It might have proven different if events had unfolded differently.
But, between strange golems, pirate ships, and your....betrayal....I
feel that I must forgo any idea of a relationship
It is a good thing that unwed mothers are not considered harlots,
for that at least salves my conscious when I say: LEAVE!
Leave, for I have nothing for you, and if you don't go, the volcano
will finish you....as you finished whatever we may have had together.
Fare thee well,
Lord Frederigo D'Honaire of Suffex
The last part of the note is written in a savage, angry hand. Alicia
sheds one tear at what could have been, and then looks up and sees what
she was expecting to see: the pirate ship.
"Goodbye, Fred." whispers Alicia before she scampers off to tell the
Pack of what she's found....

Fred and Malachi watch in satifaction as the ship sails off, unsteadily.
At least now the Pack's odds of survival are better than before!
"I guess that even Carradene could see with his magic that the volcano
was going to go off." Malachi murmurs with a satisfied look, tail swishing
in satisfaction. "I wonder if he can keep his little paws on the reins
of power after the Pack makes landfall."
"Actually," Fred says, looking at the ship going away. "I think that
the next person who'll take the reins of power is Loam. He seems to have
developed quiet a following with all he did in this quick evacuation. It
might happen, but frankly.....I doubt that I will ever know."
"Let's get what we can from the cave," Malachi says, smiling at Fred.
"I have gotten a few items there that'll get us off this island and back
to my Lair with time to spare. At least the only thing now to worry about
are the Forsaken." The golems had moved off to places unknown, and as far
as Fred and Malachi were concerned, they were welcome to stay LOST!
After a few close encounters, the werefoxes enter the mouth of the cavern
that has become something of a home. They are gathering the last few things
before leaving when.......
The world tilts on it's side! When they regain their balance, they find
themselves still in the same cavern....but something is different! More
to the point, they are NOT alone!
-
The sight of old Carradene,
a small human child with the coloration and ears and tail of a fox (along
with a smiling vixen and a good dozen of what look to be the human/fox
child's little baby bothers) was who they say. All look suprised!
