Freddy Vulpine - Think of Fred 3, except things went horribly different once they finally were able to find and meet Synizn.  In this world, a thief stole the Crystallic from the mage and killed the werebear with a silver handaxe.  The distraught Fred and Astra were unable to track down the thief and the time limit upon their cure expired.

When the moon rose that night, the truth of the matter came out as the distraught spirit of Fred was released into the hereafter and the kitsune spirit who'd taken over during that one fateful night with Astra (and reshaped the sleeping Fred's body) comes forth.  See, instead of he and Astra beings demifoxes, they had actually been kitsune.  The kitsune hadn't actually chosen to steal the adventurers body.....it just happened.  A twist of fate and all that.

While the kitsune spirits within their host bodies recuperated from the initial transformation, they watched in horror and rage at the things they saw within the human's minds and hearts.  Despite all this talk about "honor" and that.....these people would gladly endanger the unborn kitsune within Astra's womb than stay in their foxish forms.  That is, the Crystallic was a vastly powerful magical item, but the kitsune transformation was irreversible once started.  The thing could, however, bring about the death of the unborn kitsune kits within Astra's womb....and these two people would have chosen the unborn one's death, the kitsune felt, rather than let well enough alone.

Taking control of the bodies while the humans slept, they met and hired a thief to steal the Crystallic and hide it until the time the humans who dwelled within these earthern shells departed.  The murder was not sanctioned by the kitsune.

It had happened and nothing could be done to undo the death, alas.

The kitsune soon moved out of Walants and set up a home with their newborn in a crude cabin in the woods of a nearby Walants town.  Freddy and his mate became thieves in order to support themselves and.....for the fun of it.  Stealing was a fun job.

Then they learned that they'd caught the ire of not only their Elders in their kitsune clan....but the Lady (a ten tailed kitsune who was the mother of all of their kind).

The crime they inadvertently comitted was that when their thief killed Synizn, they'd inadvertantly led to a fellow spirit's suffering....as a restless ghost.  Synizn came back as a ghost because he'd had the means of a release from lycnathropy in his hands (after he aided Fred and Astra).....and he'd been killed before he could do that. The kitsune (not thinking) hadn't even bothered to have the mage's body properly disposed of (i.e. burried).  They assumed that the body would have....but that's not what happened.  Ended up as spell components to a alchemist, the werebear did.

That meant that since the kitsune (thinking the hints that the Elders kept dropping was some kind of joke) failed to somehow rectify the problem.....there would be a price.  The price would be the destruction of their earthern bodies, exile to the Celestial courts as the lowest of the low forevermore, and the loss of their tail (making them zero level, tailless, kitsune).  Rank and honor is measured by the number of tails a kitsune have....so you see that since Freddy and Vix were just one tailed kitsune to begin with......  The final blow would be that the children would be seperated and integrated into new kitsune families....to as to better undo the damage done to them in their parent's obviously deficient upbringing.  There was only one way out that would save them......rare but.....

That's when the Rules and Agents came in and offered to take the kitsune couple off the hands of the Lady and the other Kitsune.  Thus the family stayed together along with Vix and Freddy as they became Champions.

This was possible because of a magical malfunction that allowed them to hear the offered given to the others in a Red Pyramid to become Champions.

Their new assignment (which they took gladly out of gratitude), was that they would teach those from a magickless world the best methods of countering magical spells....

The male kitsune looks a bit different from a demifox in that he has a full beard (neatly trimmed, of course) while demifox males cannot raise one (forever looking like young children than adults).

Is the loving father of six kitsune children (three boys and three girls).

At kitsune female is a bit different from a demifox female in that they are (at low levels) stuck in what some would call the hybrid humanoid fox form.

She has been described by some (an author named Y) as: " ...a creature that seemed part fox, part human, and all woman. Her snout sported reddish whiskers that twitched in the sunlight, her eyes were a deep auburn, her long, full tail was a light brown with a tinge of violet."
