A very powerful episode. I hope to continue it soon.

emotions... and beer

glad you liked it. I use death a lot - sometimes comedically, sometimes as farce, sometimes to make a point, sometimes just because I've somehow gone off on a tangent. I enjoy using raw emotion to put a character's point of view across, I enjoy flawed characters, and I'm not afraid to kill them off if I think a story can be made out of it.

Tension drives stories. Now, the conflict of the Checker's Thread has already been set-up with Minestus parading as Belboz unbeknownst to all but the mute Astra. The addition of the Champions added a unique twist especially in Fred with his over-bearing coveting of the position of DragonSlayer (I did not introduce that element, by the way). My dispatching of Fertal is yet another tension point - one I aimed squarely at Minestus because he knows HE didn't do the deed. I got jumped on for writing what I did, but I hope JH's extension and my two additions show that death (even unexpected and seemingly unwarranted/impossible) can be a source of renewed writing material.

Some of you folks have written about how things (like death) touch you, I simply wish to say what I have said before: emotions are a great source with which to sculpt out deep, intricate characters who can beam with warmth and weep with tears. I put a lot of thought into what I have written - and I don't expect everyone to like it - and though I am unfamiliar with the character traits of each of these Champions I hope I did them justice - or at least gave enough of a foundation for those more familiar with them to make this story go somewhere that none of us can see just yet.

Now, as I'm sure you are aware I also enjoy locker room humor and tales of beer, excrement and mutton with one-sided, one-dimensional characters that would make a professor of creative writing cry... among fantasy stories there should always be room for silliness and such (especially when the muse strikes). My point? Not sure... I seem to have hit another random tangent.

Good show

Well written episode there, Y. Not something I'd write. However, the clearest thing here is that we don't have the same writing/storytelling style. Hell, we even differ on opinions on what drive and makes a good story. Yeah, let's not go down that road, MSG. Sounds like you're whining over something and that's not what we're here to do.

Nice episode. Don't agree with everything in it or what you've written in the past. But all that said, nice episode!

Yes, that *is* meant as a compliment.

I also, by the way, hope to continue the other two spinoff threads at some point. Maybe even write an episode off the original thread, if I can think of something. :) They are all good threads and I hope they all "prevail."

compliments

MSG, glad you liked to episode - coming from you that IS a compliment as I do realize that we hav VERY different likes and dislikes in the literary department. :) But that is OK, as long as we don't attack each other over it... there is enough room in this internet world for all writers, and for characters to be taken and shaped, molded, and changed as each writer is inspired. Changing a character doesn't take away what an author has done with that character before. Case in point, Fred: we have honorable Fred, evil Fred, confused Fred, idiot Fred, whimsical Fred, chauvenist Fred, cannibal Fred, etc etc etc.

as to the Checkers Threads, KR, I am very interested as to how each branch will change our cast of characters, how alike and unlike each will be. Watching parallel threads (parallel in the sense of having branched from the same 'mother', not in the sense of being imitations of each other) is a hoot. I actually did a story graph of sorts for the Andrea threads before they ceased being written.

Please don't respond to spammers. There is almost no chance that they will ever read what you write, and once I've deleted their spam (which I do as soon as I spot it) your response will only serve to clutter up the forum.
