Fingers crossed, then. Thanks for all the feedback. It's a very strange fault - I've heard of overheating problems, but never before of underheating problems at any normal temperature.

I've heard of some problems that can be caused on cooler temperatures. The best possible explanation I've heard is that with all the expansion and contraction that goes on when components heat up and cool down, chips on a board can work their way out of their sockets. When warm, the chips expand enough to make a connection with the pins in the socket, but they are unable to do so when cold.

I of course have no idea if that is what is happening in my case. There could be any number of reasons why this is going on.

Well, it seems that today is my lucky day. My new DSL modem arrived today, instead of Monday as was expected. I wil make another attempt to install the modem tonight. I'll keep you posted on my progress.

I just finished installing the new DSL modem. It appears to be working fine. This should solve the regular outages that Sir-Toby.Com has been experiencing. Please let me know if you experience any further problems.
