Okay the program seems to work now. However I'm not quite sure that I've got the directory correct.
When I put in the URL for the story home.

I just simply got a 404 I'm just going to assume that I need to put all the important URLs in a new HTML file there.
So that brings me up to my next question.
What are the links that I need to put in that page.
And what's the link to episode one?

Yeah, you need to put an HTML file there that will contain links to the various bits of Extend-A-Story functionality that you want to allow people to use.Wooster wrote:Okay the program seems to work now. However I'm not quite sure that I've got the directory correct.

Poking around on your site, I found the link to episode 1 of your story:Wooster wrote:So that brings me up to my next question.

You probably also want to provide links to these pages:
http://members.lycos.co.uk/woostery/www/search.php
http://members.lycos.co.uk/woostery/www/statistics.php
http://members.lycos.co.uk/woostery/www/story-tree.php
If you have moderators that need to log in, you may want to provide a link to this as well:

Please make me a modorator
Dang, i don't understand any of this, i'm just in beginners Programing. I just learned how to make a clock ^_^.
Anyway, Wooster, can i be a modarator for your website. i love modarateing, I don't know why. but i have expeiriance at GameFaqs.com. i quit there after the Lueicide event(massive protest against Modaraters.)
I have alot of free time during the night, and alot on thursdays and fridays.
Sunday nights are good also.

Wooster, your site is working.
I just posted an episode. It is more than one sentence, and the choice is not whether to go left or go right.
Seems cool!
Cool, a Mario themed Extend-a-Story! I've written three episodes so far. (One of them I consider one of the best stuff I've ever written!) Just, how do you plan to enforce the Author insert allowed/Author insert not allowed/Nintendo only rule you've created?

Bear in mind that if the writers all follow the guidelines then you won't have anything to do. And that should be the usual and preferred state of affairs. Having to edit or delete an episode ought to be a rare event, and done only as a last resort. (And before doing that, if the author has provided an email address it would be polite first to ask the author to edit it himself/herself.)

I story about me
Yes, i know, i was a low level modarator, so i was only permeted to mod, from time to time. i was also only asigned to the message boards that were rarely doing anything wrong. Intill February 12th, i was asign to patroll the LUE(Life, the uniferse, and everything) boards. the most visious, and most modarated boards on gamefaqs. I got used to it after a while, intill one day someone made a dare, he dared everyone to go agianst all the rules of the message boards, and they did, the LUE members were spreding out to all the other boards, posting off-topic Pron filled, cencor by-passing messages, flameing every which way they could. it lasted 3 days.
Lots of people were baned. and i couldn't take the stress when they all came back. But, that is a story saved for another time.
Man i talk to much, ^_^

Wow, I had no idea that my Site had become so popular while I was out trying to get it to work. Thanks all!
As for making sure that posts got into the right spots, I "was" either going to move them or just delete them.
As for making you a Mod Keegan there are 2 reasons why I won't.
The first thing halting that is that I do not remember my admin password/log in name. Which kinda stops that from happening. *shrug*
The next thing is that I honestly don't know you too well yet. It's not that I doubt that you'd do a good job or anything I'd just like to get accuainted first.
But actually that was not origionally why I came back here. I was going to say that I really enjoyed your help Sir-Toby and really enjoy the program and put a link up to your site and if it was possible to change the default color for the new episodes (Mainly to match the color of the main page). But while I was doing that I discovered that the Program wouldn't let me in. so I was wondering if you knew how I could find my password again or atleast reset the login/password protocall thing.
Sorry.
EDIT: Okay I'm sorry, I by random act of chance was able to log in propery and wrote down my password. SO I guess there is no need for alarm.

Well, I'm glad to see someone using the software, so I'm happy to help get it running.Wooster wrote:But actually that was not origionally why I came back here. There is a way to alter the color schemes that apply to episodes if you have access to a MySQL client. You'd simply need to modify the color information in the scheme table. However, there is no PHP script for modifying this information. I'll create a feature request for being able to modify the episode schemes from the admin interface, and will add it to my todo list.
Resetting your login name/password is a similiar problem. You could reset it yourself if you have access to a MySQL client. There is no PHP script for doing this. I'll work out a PHP script for doing this over the weekend and get that to you.

Ah, good. I didn't see your edit until after I finished my reply. I won't worry about working out a PHP script for resetting the user name/password immediately then. It still sounds like a useful thing to have around, so I will create a feature request for it and will add it to my todo list.Wooster wrote:EDIT: Okay I'm sorry, I by random act of chance was able to log in propery and wrote down my password. Did you mean ODS, cause i don't see where Keegen wanted to be a mod.
Oh well, but the good thing is that most people get to know me quickly, theres not much to know about, i'm just here at NEQ to get over my writers block.
But please do contact me Via PM if you need a Mod. i'll be happy to help. and remeber, i was a mod before.
Anyway, i'll get to work on some episodes now.
And my darn clock isn't working.
programming is hard.
Edit: Well, we'd be able to talk if my AIM or MSN messengers were working. but anyway, i like your website, and posted an episode allready.
Another Edit: Sir Toby! The Topic is popular. let us celebrate, the first popular topic on the Sir Toby message boards.

Thanks a lot Sir-Toby, You've been a lot of help, I wish there was something I could do to repay you in some way.
ODS: I'm sorry for getting your name mixed up. And thanks for liking my site. I'm surprised at how many people like my site as I think it looks crummy and as I have very little experience with HTML, but I'm working at it so hopefully I can become satisfied with it's set-up. Extend-a-Story on the other hand I think is the greatest and almost infalible part of the site, so Don't take that to wrong way Toby, I'm criticizing 'my' HTML skills because I like to do that to myself.
Hmm... Must not have been a very loyal group. For one guy to start a flame war and go on like that. The board that I go to had the exact oppocite problem for a week, one guy wanted to start a rebellion and EVERY one even people missing for a year or so showed up and flamed the rebelion starter. It took a while but it calmed down a bit.
