It doesn't really matter, but I'm curious. Why did Artemis want to know whether or not Astra had been conscious at the time when she was chained up? How would that affect the chances of freeing her?

The way I figured it, you can't get good leverage if each of your limbs were tied to a seperate chain. Artemis figured if Astra had been affected by magic, this meant that a tremendous amount of pulling on one chain would be enough to remove the chain from the wall itself. Artemis thought that if the dragon had taken enough trouble to dull Astra's senses, this meant that the chain's weak point was a lot of stress on on the bit where it was bolted to the wall. Because if Astra had been herself, she would have been fighting every inch of the way.

Artemis was using her noodle there. Clever girl.
