Can someone gives some background on the Staircase Story?

There are a lot of storylines related to these two characters or Josh and Scott but I feel like I don't have enough details to contribute any storylines.

What from I've gathered (and correct me if I'm wrong), Josh and Scott and the Staircase Room are characters and a scenario from a previous online Addventure and have since then migrated to the Never Ending Quest. I think I get that part.

What is the story behind them? Do they just leave on go on crazy random adventures? Is there any defining traits that either of them have that I need to be aware of (I think Scott is bisexual). These seem popular and I'd like to add to them, but I need more details.

Thank you.

I dont' think anyone completely understands Horsehockey, except maybe Lots. I still don't know who P.K. Mergler is.

Scott was the main character from Addventure Game 3: Endless Perspectives. That one began in the staircase room.

Josh was the main character from the first Horsehockey which launched in fall of 1999 (just a few months after Addventure Game 3 closed). Scott got introduced into Horsehockey a few days in. Horsehockey had two more versions go online before it closed in early 2003. If I'm not mistaken, both Scott and Josh had made appearances in NEQ even before that time, courtesy of Lots42.

Their sexuality is usually at the whim of whoever's writing that episode, really.

Anything else, just ask.

Addventure Game 3 can still be read, even though it's not been possible to post new episodes since about 1999: http://addventure.com/cgi-bin/read.pl/a ... age/2.html Note that, unlike with the NEQ, there is no indication of which options have been taken by someone; you have to click on them to find out.

I see that the Addventure home page has had an update in the last couple of years or so. For Game 4, it no longer says "Coming soon" but "Coming eventually". I suspect that even "eventually" may be over-optimistic, though.

Re: P.K. Mergler...

In 2000, one of the old HH authors, someone calling himself El Caballero, used to namedrop Mergler in the last option of several episodes he wrote. I don't remember the exact story, but when asked, El Caballero said that Mergler was the name of a local politician (he didn't say where he lived).

A Google search turned up nothing apart from NEQ episode 78019, so whoever P.K. Mergler was, they've likely done absolutely nothing out of the ordinary.

And there's more people who understand Horsehockey than just Lots42, man. :)

I stumbled upon some of the old addventures and briefly checked them out, but never contributed to them. It wasn't until I found this website that I did that.

Basically, can it be summed up as "Random crazy insanity that these two encounter in their adventures?"
