Migrating Sir-Toby.Com to New Hosting Provider, 2015 Edition

Post by Sir Toby »

The current hosting provider for Sir-Toby.Com is terminating their service at the end of this year, just a few days from now. I am currently investigating NearlyFreeSpeech.NET as an alternative hosting provider. Barring any unusual problems, this migration should be completed within the next day. Sir-Toby.Com will be taken down for a few hours while this migration is happening.

I will post updates to this thread when I have more information.

All of my initial tests look good. I plan to proceed with the migration starting around 6:30 PM PST (UTC -0700) on December 29th, just over four hours from now. When I start, all of Sir-Toby.Com will be taken down and replaced with a "under maintenance" page. I'm guessing it will take about an hour to migrate my database data over to my new host. Once everything appears to be working, I will update my DNS entries. When you no longer see the "under maintenance" page, you will be looking at Sir-Toby.Com at its new home. I will post again in this thread when everything is complete.

The only issue I have noticed on the new host is that the server time zone is set to UTC. Extend-A-Story has no time zone handling, so all future time stamps on episodes will be in UTC, rather than Pacific Time.

I have completed the migration. You are reading this message on Sir-Toby.Com's new host.

There is one additional change that everyone should be aware of. Email notifications from Sir-Toby.Com will now come from "webmaster@sir-toby.com" rather than "sir-toby@sir-toby.com". If notifications from Sir-Toby.Com are being sent to your spam folder, be sure to add this new address to your address book.

I will keep an eye on things to make sure everything is working. If you see anything out of place, please let me know.

Thanks!

Are you sure about that? When I received a notification of your most recent post to this thread - presumably made after the change - it appeared to come from "sir-toby@sir-toby.com".

Thank you for letting me know. I may have overlooked something. I've applied the change again. Hopefully the notification for this message will use the correct email address. Let me know if it does.

Thanks!
