I am still working on migrating Sir-Toby.Com to a new server solution, but it is taking longer than I anticipated. I have noticed that the current server seems to be crashing more often. I'm not sure what the cause is, but I've been having to restart the server every few days lately.

I will be out of town from January 18th to the 23rd. Unfortunately I will not have Sir-Toby.Com on a new server solution by this time. If the Sir-Toby.Com server crashes while I am out of town, I will be unable to restart it until I return. If this happens, please be patient until I am able to get the server back up.

Well, the site stayed up. :) Were we just lucky? Or could it be that the site is less likely to crash when you are away? Do you run anything at home (eg central heating) that could be causing spikes in the electricity supply or generating radio wave interference?

Yep, the site stayed up. I just got back in town today, after having extended my trip a few extra days. I doubt we were just lucky -- the site was crashing regularly before I left. I have a few ideas as to why the site stayed up. Ever since winter hit, I've been running a humidifier to keep the humidity up. That has not been running while I've been out of town. I've also been running a fan pointing at the server that I turned off before I left in fear that its power draw was affecting the server. I also replaced an aging power strip that the server was plugged in to that I thought might be causing problems. Any one of those items could be the reason why my server hasn't crashed in the past week. Since I'm back in town, I will be using the humidifier again. If that causes the server to crash, then I'll try moving the humidifier to a different circuit and see if that helps.

I've been running the humidifier for several nights now with no incident, so it looks like the humidifier is not a problem. However, I turned the fan back on last night, and the server crashed during the night. So I guess I won't be using the fan any more.
