Re: NEQ and the Black Void currently down

I've updated Extend-A-Story to use the mysqli library instead of the mysql library. I've deployed this change to The Never Ending Quest, The Black Void, and the Beta Test story. Everything appears to be working fine. Let me know if you run into any further issues.

Re: NEQ and the Black Void currently down

Hello everyone! I'm sorry for the Extend-A-Story outage. As JH has mentioned, my website host has updated their version of PHP and this new version no longer supports the mysql library I've been using for Extend-A-Story. Fortunately there is a replacement library called mysqli that I can use and it ...

SSL Enabled for Sir-Toby.Com

I recently discovered that it is easy to add SSL to Sir-Toby.Com, so I have done so. Your communication with Sir-Toby.Com (such as passwords) is now encrypted. This shouldn't really affect anyone, other than using https instead of http. If you do experience any problems, let me know.

Re: Your captcha is broken

I wonder if it could be Lots trying to post two episodes very close together in time that made reCaptcha suspicious. During development and testing of my reCaptcha implementation, I found that creating multiple episodes in rapid succession did result in more difficult challenges. It is certainly po...

Re: Your captcha is broken

I don't have any easy answers for you. It is possible there is a problem on Google's side that is causing your problems with the captcha. Another thing to try would be to log in to a Google account, if you have one. I've heard that if you're logged into a Google account you may receive an easier cha...

Re: Need help tracking down a story

I also tried a few searches using relevant keywords. I found a bunch of episodes that contain the keywords, but I haven't found anything that matches the scenario you describe.

Re: Your captcha is broken

Ouch! That's no good. I'm sorry that you're having trouble. Google's reCaptcha system can be a bit tricky sometimes. One trick I've found is on some challenges where it asks you to identify all of something, they will frequently bring up even more images after you click on a few. You have to wait fo...

Sir-Toby.Com Wiki - Poll

So I'm again thinking of adding a wiki to Sir-Toby.Com. My desire is that authors can use the wiki as a collaborative space to create episode guides for the stories here. There have been a number of episode guides created in the past that have since gone defunct. While we've tried to keep them alive...

Updated to phpBB Version 3

I just upgraded our version of phpBB to version 3. This is a significant upgrade from what we were using before. I've done some basic testing and things seem to be working. Let me know if you see any problems.

2016 Extend-A-Story Development Update

With the recent migration of Sir-Toby.Com to a new hosting provider, I have been inspired to continue development on Extend-A-Story. As part of this work, I am moving Extend-A-Story development to GitHub: Extend-A-Story on GitHub I have recently been working on a web-based installation process for E...

All of my initial tests look good. I plan to proceed with the migration starting around 6:30 PM PST (UTC -0700) on December 29th, just over four hours from now. When I start, all of Sir-Toby.Com will be taken down and replaced with a "under maintenance" page. I'm guessing it will take about an hour ...

Migrating Sir-Toby.Com to New Hosting Provider, 2015 Edition

The current hosting provider for Sir-Toby.Com is terminating their service at the end of this year, just a few days from now. I am currently investigating NearlyFreeSpeech.NET as an alternative hosting provider. Barring any unusual problems, this migration should be completed within the next day. Si...
