Billy picked up the wooden round pillar ( the cannon ) >and placed it in its hiding place, taped to the end of his bedpost > >Each rule must name a part of the scene and put it in a storage place. > >jml Judgement: VALID Style: I HATE the storage place restriction. Prompt and brief, though +0.1 >>>> >Rule 88.2 > >"Yes, you hafta. And get these cars off the stairs, someone could get >hurt." > > Billy drove the wheeled bricks up the bannister, but slipped on one he >missed, tumbling down several steps. Undaunted, the tyke made "vroom, >vroom" noises and placed them in the closet garage. > >Each rule from this one on must describe a problem Billy encounters while >cleaning. ><<< > >___Dan_Knapp Judgement: VALID Style: How many times have I seen this restriction??? Let me guess, the next one requires the following rule to solve the problem encountered in the previous rule... Also, the restriction is worded such that Billy will spend the entire round cleaning -- YAWN. -0.2 >Rule 88.3 > >"Godzilla attacks! ROOOAAARRR!" > > Billy lowers his arm into the wall of wooden cubes, bringing them crashing >down to the floor. "Big monsters shouldn't have to clean up," he mumbled as he >scooped up the cubes and tossed them into the bucket next to his dresser. > >Each rule must have Billy pretending to be a character that hasn't been used in >a previous rule. Submitted by Andrew Judgement: INVALID (Billy does not pretent to be a character in 88:2) Style: The theme is BLOCKS, not BILLY. It would be nice if the restrictions had something to do with the theme... (BTW, welcome Andrew, better luck next time) -0.1 >Billy tugged at the old TV set in the corner of the play room, trying >unusucessfully >to move it. "Mom, they don't wanna go away." > >"Billy, put one of your toys away, when the other toys see how nice the place >they get put away in is, they'll all want to get put away." > >Billy scuffed and peeked, finally picking up a lego (tm) which he put in a >lego (still a TM) box >he built for the occasion. > >Each rule features a block being acted upon by Billy, based on another's >instruction. > >Note: this does not have to be Billy's Mom Submitted by jml Judgement: VALID Style: A slight improvement, but we've still just got stuff being put away, not the kind of thing that makes my heart go pitter-patter... +0.2 >Rule 88.5 > >"Billy, come down here and take care of the box from your new toy." > >He scampered down the stairs, and into the living room. The box from his toy >was sitting on the floor, with the styrofoam inserts sitting next to it. The >white styrofoam insert had indentations on one side, where the toy was >previously nestled. On top of the block was a black and silver tabby cat, >fast >asleep. > >"Mommy, kitty's sleeping on it!" > >"Well, then, wake him up." > >He picked up the cat, which gave him the familiar "don't bother me again" >stare, >and set him down. He grabbed the box and styrofoam blocks and carried them >out >into the kitchen and tossed them into the trash can. > >Each rule after this one (and including this one) must give at least a one >line >description of each block mentioned in the rule. Submitted by Andrew Judgement: INVALID (Each block must have at least a one line description. The cat is sitting on top of a block. Either this block does not have a description or it is one of the styrofoam inserts. If it is one of the styrofoam inserts, then styrofoam inserts are blocks and since there are more than one insert there should be more than one line of description. Either way, its invalid) (Also not consistant with 88:4, no one instructs Billy to act on the styrofoam insert(s), could work if the box were considered a block, but then _it_ would need at least one line of description.........) Style: This rule is starting to get wordy and requires future rules to be wordier too 0.0 Rule 88:6: >#### > >Billy continued cleaning, but it was becoming more difficult -- the house >was full of dust, and Billy's nose was getting stuffed up. His mother >immediately suggested that he get some fresh air. > >Billy opened his front door and looked up and down his city block. It was >just a small part of the street Billy lived on, Storage Place. The air was >crisp and clean, so after a deep breath Billy headed back in to continue >his cleaning. As he walked in, he noticed for the first time the oddness of >that name... > >In each future Rule, Billy shall discover a new fact he had not previously >known about what was being cleaned. > >#### Submitted by Chaos Harlequin Judgement: INVALID (Billy does not "act upon" the city block "based on another's instruction" as required by 88:4) Style: Positive points both for a creative type of block and an even more creative way of satisfying 88:1. Negative for the restriction which, like others I have expressed displeasure with, does not expressly deal with blocks and continues to focus on cleaning (HO HUM). +0.5 >Rule 88.7 > >Title: Billy picks up a blue, painted block and moves it to one side >as the T.V tries to take over his mind > >Billy went back to the T.V. and tugged at its controls. >When the screen turned on the T.V. he assumed the >traditional t.V. viewing pose. Mouth open slackly, eyes >glazed he nodded as a cornacopepia of delights swam forth. > >Then a low soothing voice issued out of the T.V. and it said >"Billy, you don't want to clean your playroom, do you?" > >Billy shook his head numbly. > >"You want to watch T.V., don't you." > >He shook his head, "Yes." > >"Make yourself comfortable, and lie down." > >Billy lay down immeadiately, but after a moment, shifted uncomfortably. > >"Billy, if you are uncomfortable, move everything you are lieing on to one >side." > >Some of his toys lay under him. He rolled over and picked up toy truck and >threw it aside, a platoon of wooden soldiers joined it. then he lugged a >blue painted wooden block -- a dented scarred one -- over to the side of >the toy chest. > He glanced and saw there was nothing else there. > >Title Rule: All rules must have a title (Relevelence is optional). > Submitted by jml Judgement: INVALID Billy encounters no problem _while cleaning_ as required by 88:2. Also, restriction applies to ALL rules and since no previous rule had a title... Style: Long and sloppy: misspellings of cornucopia, immediately, lying and relevance (this is why spell checkers were invented, folks...), missing articles and commas, non-capitalized words and, by the way, how does a SCREEN turn on a TV? Basic idea is a refreshing change, but adherence to the theme is perfunctory, the restriction is old hat and it requires future rules to be longer than they would otherwise be. -1.5 >----- >"I'm a blockhead," Billy tells himself, speaking as if it was his own >secret name. He looks >across the playroom and realizes that he will never be able to clean it >fully. "I must hide myself >away," he tells himself, as if he was ordering someone else to put him >away like one of his >toys. Slowly he builds himself a tower of blocks, wood ones, alphabet >blocks, legos (tm)--- >The block wall spirals around him until he himself is stored away, >safely hidden from the >mundane world. He realizes that if his own story must continue, it must >be in places far >removed from the mundane world of the playeroom, and it must be in third >person present-tense. >---- > >Swann > This arrived just about two hours too late, I'm afraid. >Received: by troll.no id <79745-290>; Fri, 16 Jan 1998 19:48:54 +0100 >Player: Eligible Until: Style: >(All Others) 1/16 17:57:23 0.0 In any case, this too would have been INVALID since the rule describes no problem Billy encounters while cleaning as required by 88:2, as well as defying 88:4 which requires Billy's instructions to come from "another," not himself. -TWJ (Jeremy Selengut)
