Consequently the reader is asked to interpret all references to "His Majesty, beloved of the 14 gods, wise, divine, and beneficent King Mug" as "Mug the despicable, despised of the 14 gods". In unrelated news, His Majesty, beloved of the 14 gods, wise and divine King Egra, ascended to the throne of Corelia this morning, rescuing Corelia from the horrible rain of Mug the despicable, despised of the 14 gods. " All future rules will include an excerpt from one of the only two extant histories of Corelia. ---- JUDGMENT OF 140:1 ---- FR 140:1 is VALID. As it is the first fantasy rule, it need merely be consistent with itself and the ROs, which it is. STYLE is +1.5 for: - Entertaining dynastic lore - Revisionism - Leaving open the identity of the OTHER history of Corelia - Of course, the acronym formed by Final Records of Corelia. ---------- 140:2 ---------- >From the Corelia Historica: Being the true history of the Kingdom of Corelia: "4/43/18: Her Majesty, Queen Kiseldra gave birth this morning to a horrible misshapen child. The child was given to a kitchen servant, instead of being killed. She named the child Garm. The name Garm shall never be seen in the 'Final Records of Corelia, the official history of the Kingdom of Corelia,' as that history would never mention a misshapen royal birth. " All rules will have reference to one of the 5 kings of Corelia. ---- JUDGMENT OF 140:2 ---- Rule 140:2 is VALID. Ah, now we see the identity of the other white meat. Ahem, I mean the other history alluded to in 140:1. It very nearly contradicts itself when it requires that all rules (including itself, of course) have reference to one of the five kings of Corelia, which it does not seem to possess unless one considers the imposition of this requirement itself, which surely refers to not just one but all five of the kings of Corelia. Good show. I wonder what these dates in the entires refer to. Style is +1.5 for: - Classical mythological reference - Appropriate, if limited, restriction on future rules - Definition of the number of kings of Corelia - Clever self-referential restriction (as described above). ---------- 140:3 ---------- Taken from the Corelia Historica: Being the true history of the Kingdom of Corelia: " 35/68/21: The last president that Corelia has known, had the power to change the governement type into a kingdom. The date was 15/215/16, and could happen because there was noone interested to sit in the parliament. Without any parliament, he had the power to do as he liked, and he took the opportunity with both hands. We see a similar situation arise now, as there is no successor, and King Loren is growing old. What will happen when he dies ? " All dates will be written with 3 numbers separated with slashes. The meaning of the numbers are as follows: The first number gives us the year from the start of the current governement. The second number gives the number of days passed in the year. The third number gives the number of leading powers since the founding of Corelia. The days where there is a change of power, can be referenced with 2 dates, for example 17/45/19 and 1/1/20. The excerpts from the histories of Corelia will mention a date that comes before all other dates mentioned in valid rules, if there are any. ---- JUDGMENT OF 140:3 ---- Rule 140:3 is INVALID. If valid, this rule would require that "the excerpts from the histories of Corelia will mention a date that comes before all other dates mentioned in valid rules, if there are any." First of all, I interpret the dangling clause "if there are any" to refer to "valid rules," as per normal English grammar; as opposed to referring to "dates". Then, this restriction is clearly contradictory. As long as there are at least two dates mentioned in valid rules, /both/ of them cannot be a "date that comes before all other dates mentioned in valid rules." Since there are two such dates, this rule would invalidate those previously valid rules, and thus is itself invalid. Even if there were not any other valid rules yet, this rule itself contains three dates, and if it were valid, its ultimate restriction would invalidate itself. Style is -1.0 for: - A self-contractory rule. Style is NOT -1.5 (what I would normally given for a run-of-the-mill self-contradictory rule) because of the valiant and intriguing attempt to explain the meaning of the dates, a subject I expressed some interest in. ---------- 140:4 ---------- From the Final Records of Corelia, the official history of the Kingdom of Corelia: " 10/05/09: On this day of our lord, we crown the First King of Corelia, his high lord and majesty, winner of the Golden Branch, Protector of the Fifth Realm, King Lubnutz the Mighty. This day shall be a national holiday in celebration of this historic event. No work shall be done for the next 14 days in honor of the gods who, in their frightful Wisdom and divine Knowledge brought about this most glorious of days. After this period of celebration, the king and his 14 advisors will open court to hear the will of the people. Henceforth, this shall be done every 14 days by the decree of the gods, and shall be recorded in this most sacred of books." The next rule must name one of the five kings of Corelia, net yet named. ---- JUDGEMENT OF 140:4 ------- Rule 140:4 is VALID: Per 140:1, it contains "an excerpt from at least one of the only two extant histories of Corelia." Per 140:2, it does not mention the name "Garm", and has "reference to one of the 5 kings of Corelia." Style is +1.75 for - The name "Lubnutz" and the honorifics surrounding it - A nice magical number (14) of days - A nice restriction on the next rule ---------- 140:5 ---------- From the Final Records of Corellia, the official history of the Kingdom of Corelia: " 23/23/23: Corelia is at war with Magrathea. Corelia has always been at war with Magrathea. Anyone treasonously claiming that Corelia has ever been at war with Trantor shall be reported to the nearest Temple of Aphrael, as decreed by His Majesty, beloved of the 14 gods, wise, divine, and beneficent King Mug. In related news, the reader is asked to interpret all references to "Mug the despicable, despised of the 14 gods" as "His Majesty, beloved of the 14 gods, wise, divine, and beneficent King Mug"; and, furthermore, to interpret all references to "His Majesty, beloved of the 14 gods, wise and divine King Egra" as "Egra the usurper, despised of the 14 gods". These aren't the kings you're looking for. Move along. " All future rules will name exactly one of the 14 gods that has not previously been named. ---- JUDGEMENT OF 140:5 ------- Rule 140:5 by Ed Murphy is UNSUCCESSFUL: (Please note that the rule is stated to be "140:4"; nevertheless, it shall be considered to be 140:5 for official purposes.) The rule clearly cannot be valid. 140:4 requires that "The next rule must name one of the five kings of Corelia, net [sic] yet named." I have interpreted the obvious typo "net" to read as "not" for the purposes of validity. Ed Murphy's offering names only two kings of Corelia, Egra and Mug, both of whom were already referred to in 104:1. 140:5 therefore does not adhere to the restriction of 140:4 and cannot be valid. However, it is clear from the duplicated designation as "140:4" and the five minute time difference between this rule and Nicholson's 140:4 that Ed Murphy had not yet received 140:4 when he posted this rule. Therefore, under RO 6a, I adjudge this rule to be unsuccessful. Style is +2.5 for: - Delightful expansion on revisionist history - Another "14" moment (see my last posting) - The "These aren't the kings..." line - A good restriction on future rules. ------- Proposal 140:I -------- The text "If the (new) Judge does not post a message regarding the beginning of the new round within three (3) days of the end of the previous round, then the (new) Wizard shall become the Judge." shall be appended after a carriage return at the end of the third Regular Ordinance. (The proposal failed, but I do not know the exact voting) ------- Proposal 140:A -------- That the current Judge (=King Charles I) be executed by having his head cut off for even daring to suggest such a change in the time-honored laws governing our society and attempting to usurp power properly belonging to Parliament. Parliament does hereby ordain the following laws as binding on the FRC: 1. All powers formerly given to the Judge shall be endowed to Parliament, which shall consist of all nonbeheaded FRC members. Fantasy Rules shall be judged by Parliament. Each member may vote VALID, INVALID, or UNSUCCESSFUL (or not at all). The voting period is three days. If #VALID #INVALID + #UNSUCCESSFUL, then the rule shall be VALID. If not, but #UNSUCCESSFUL #INVALID, then the rule shall be UNSUCCESSFUL Otherwise, the rule shall be judged INVALID. (# refers to no. of that sort of vote) Each voting member shall also submit a style rating between -3 and 3 inclusive: the median style shall be the one given to the rule. If they submit no style, their vote shall not be counted. Questions of interpreting the R.O.'s shall be decided by a call for judgement submitted by an FRC member. Parliament shall have a vote lasting 3 days on this issue, either agreeing or disagreeing with the interpretation of the submitting player, with only a majority vote needed to decide the interprative issue. In all cases, Parliament shall be restricted in the same way as the Judge was restricted performing in the same activity. All other powers of the Judge shall be taken from the Judge and given to Parliament EXCEPT for R.O. 10 privilages. 2. Eligibility times for VALID rules shall be extended to 10 days to compensate for legislative slow-down. 3. Players may only be beheaded by an overrule proposal to that effect OR by a Fantasy Rule which declares said player to be beheaded OR if such a proposal or rule is submitted and it fails to recieve the number of votes needed for the proposal to pass/the rule to be VALID, in which case the proposer/creator shal himself be beheaded. 4. All players must adopt a different name suitable for this historical period. If anyone refers to anyone by their real name on the official commitee forum after this proposal passes, they shall be beheaded. 5. A beheaded player loses all eligibility, in addition to losing their vote in Parliament. 6. The player known as Jared Sunshine (aka. King Charles I), shall be able to reenter the round under a new alias as if he were a new, unbeheaded, normally eligible player. No one else may do this. 7. The Judge and Wizard for the next round will be determined normally from eligibility and style. It certainly was a temporary RO overwrite). Voting Breakdown Vote ------------------------------ rchatham YEA Charles E Carroll YEA Jesse Welton NAY Garth A Rose NAY Anton Cox NAY Luk Vandelaer NAY
