This Rule is better than all other rules in the round, because it is the only rule with more than 40 words. _______________________________________________________________________ Rule 117:2 VALID +0.0 SP Received: by troll.no id <75558-157>; Tue, 29 Jun 1999 05:30:30 +0200 From: Jonathan Fry All rules' descriptions of their superiority describe a true characteristic, though the value judgment may not be true. This rule's superiority is demonstrated by it's having the second most number of words. --Jon ________________________________________________________________________ Rule 117:3 VALID +1.0 SP Received: by troll.no id <75562-156>; Tue, 29 Jun 1999 09:00:30 +0200 From: Ronald Kunne >>>>>>>>> This rule is better than all other rules in this round, because it does not contain that vile letter, that all other rules *do* contain. >>>>>>>>> Greetings, Ronald ______________________________________________________________________ Rule 117:4 INVALID +0.0 SP Received: by troll.no id <75558-157>; Tue, 29 Jun 1999 16:17:37 +0200 From: Anton Cox >>> I'm short! >>> Anton ____________________________________________________________________ Rule 117:5 VALID +1.0 SP Received: by troll.no id <75572-156>; Tue, 29 Jun 1999 17:33:04 +0200 From: "Joshua Boehme" 117:5 This tiny rule is not the non-best because it never would not contain the most negations. Anton: one player who is no longer with us Best: Rules that contain the most numbers (three!) Catch-16: Submitting this just before leaving on holiday >>>>> ___________________________________________________________________ Proposal ________ Proposal 117:A read as follows: That Rule 117:6 be ruled invalid, because it is not the only rule which "Follows the theme." Voting on this proposal ended on Monday July 5 at 19:41:00 (troll.no time) Joshua Boehme and Nicholson Neisler voted FOR it. Ronald Kunne, Jesse Welton and Oerjan Johansen voted AGAINST it. The proposal thus failed by a vote of 2-3. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Because I like to see WHY Rules got their validness & style, here are parts of the judgements. - Andre 117:1 VALID. +0.5 Style. Word-counting is so....so...depressing. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 117:2 VALID. 0 Style. Original, imaginative restrictions are better...see the next Judgment. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 117:3 VALID. +1 Style. Interesting restriction. The Theme I proposed seems to be dead. The new theme is apparently "Pride" or "I am the Greatest." ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 117:4 Well, you're short, but why are you better than the other rules of this round? INVALID +0.0 Style ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 117:5 VALID +1.0 Style Banning quintuple negation is not a bad idea :-) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 117:6 Well, no one seems to be arguing against the validity of this rule and it seems valid to me, so... VALID +0.5 Style (+1.5 for following the proposed theme and -1.0 for inadvertently preventing all other rules from doing so.) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 117:7,8,9 Rule 6 claims to be best because it follows the proposed theme. In the opinion of the Judge, this precludes any other rule from following that departed theme (otherwise, how could Rule 6 use "following the theme" as a reason it's *better than* all the other rules?). Rules 7, 8 and 9 follow the theme of "Optimism: Naming Reasons Why Things Are Better Than They Seem" and are therefore, unfortunately, invalid. I await the proposals to overturn these judgments.... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 117:10 VALID +1 Style (for brevity and fairness) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 117:11 VALID +1.0 Style Good thing "most stylish" does not necessarily mean "having the most style points", or I'd have to invalidate this for violating the Regular Ords. I imagine this rule knows how to accessorize, or something. ;-) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 117:12 VALID +1.5 Style Nice example of an implicit claim of superiority. I also like the notion of keeping the vile letter of 117:3 undetermined. (According to my count, there are 2 candidate letters left.) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 117:13 VALID +2.0 SP ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 117:14 INVALID. Unfortunately, this rule lacks the...uh...secret ingredient required by the covert provision of the previous rule. +1.3 SP. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 117:15 GROAN. VALID. +1.5 SP. Of course, Anton, I won't be as generous on your next rule in this round ;-) Hmmm... we've had Pride and Sloth. Anyone want to try for the other Mortal Sins? (I'd be especially impressed with Gluttony, given the various restrictions placed in this round.) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 117:16 INVALID. This rule contains 32 words, as does 117:2. But 117:2 claims to be better because it has the second most number of words. So 117:16 cannot have 32 words, for otherwise 117:2 wouldn't be "better" I'm also not sure that the covert use of bread is kosher now. Style: +1.0
