"I'm afraid I can't teach you everything about magic in one week," Maggie says. "But you can choose to become a specialist in one of three areas: Combat, Conjuration, or Potionmastery, by taking the appropriate course." She points to the course outlines on the left wall of her cottage. "All three areas have their own strengths and weaknesses. A combat spellcaster is well-equipped to defeat any enemy by herself, but she lacks the ability to do anything but protect and destroy. A conjurer is completely useless by herself, but she can create almost anything that would help her achieve her goal. And a potionmaster is a combination of both; her potions both help her defeat enemies by herself and work while she is away to achieve her goal, but because she has to make her potions beforehand, she lacks the ability to deal quickly with the unexpected."

"So, a combat spellcaster is best equipped to deal with things directly, a conjurer deals with things indirectly, and a potionmaster can deal either way as he sees fit, but is slow to react," you confirm.

"That's the right idea. But choose quickly, I haven't got all day; we must get to day one of the course as soon as possible!"

You choose the course that best suits your personality:

  1. You prefer to attack danger head-on: bring on the combat course
  2. You prefer to hold back and let others do your dirty work: bring on the conjuration course
  3. You prefer to have your instruments of power ready-made: bring on the potionmastery course
  4. "Is there a fourth option?" you ask.
