I'm really surprised that the guard would give me a weapon. He'll be in deep shit if anyone finds out. Whether I could bring myself to use it is another matter. I had originally envisaged just sneaking in to talk to my love and to check that she was OK. But if I go to rescue her waving a weapon around, I'll have no choice but to try to get both of us out of the facility if I'm not to face a severe punishment - perhaps even execution. One problem is that, being nude, I have nowhere to hide the gun if I run into a guard who's less sympathetic than the one who gave it to me.
Emerging into the corridor, I am thankful to find it empty. Choosing a direction at random, I go right. If this was an Earth building, I would think that the room number 512 meant that I was on the fifth floor, but I haven't seen an elevator while I've been here, and have the impression that everything is on the one floor. Of course there's an awful lot of the building that I haven't seen. The first room that I pass is labelled 510, so at least I'm probably heading in the right direction. It's lucky that all the room numbers are given in Earth numerals as well as in those that the aliens use. But after passing room 502 I do come to what is clearly an elevator, blowing my hypothesis out of the water. I enter it. I'm on the fifth floor, unsurprisingly, which seems to be the top floor. I send the elevator down to the first floor. This is where my luck runs out. As the elevator door opens, I see a surprised-looking alien looking in at me, evidently about to take the elevator.
