Settling In

After finishing my food, I don't have to wait long before a man arrives to take me and the other slaves to our room - for it turns out that we are to share. It's a sizeable room, comfortably furnished, with beds for the six of us, and two en suite bathrooms. "You will be spending most of your time in this room," the man tells us. "You will leave it for your morning and evening meals, but you have the facilities here to make yourselves snacks if you feel hungry at other times. After your morning meal, you will go to the gym for exercise before being returned here. Also once a week you will have a medical check-up. You will find that this room has a selection of Earth games to keep you amused, along with a selection of CDs and DVDs and the means to play them."

When the man leaves, it doesn't occur to any of us to try the door by which we had entered the room, though no doubt he would have locked it behind him anyway. We soon settle into our new existence, helped by the drugs that are circulating in our systems to remain calm and accepting. When we have our weekly medical check-up, I think we must receive a top-up dose of those drugs.

A couple of months pass by uneventfully. I'm already getting pretty big, even though I still have three months to go. The medical staff have told me at one of my check-ups that there is no cause for alarm; it's just that alien babies are on average about 25% bigger than human babies when they are born. Two of the other girls, who are also expecting twins, are almost as big as me; the other three are only pregnant with one so are naturally a good bit smaller.

1. Then they forget to give me one of the weekly drug booster injections, and over the next few days I start to realise how crazy this all is and to wonder about the possibility of escape.
2. One day we are told that we are going to be moved to another facility a couple of hours journey away, though we aren't told why.
3. Another month passes...
