Sarah was served the best vegetarian meal that she had ever had. She enjoyed a baked potato, topped with a generous portion of spinach and onions. The spinach was superior even to the spinach that one would find at a good restaurant in New York. The onions reminded her of the witticism, "You bite them, they bite back," but they complemented the spinach perfectly. A little sesame oil, and a little black pepper, and the meal was perfect. She noticed that the room was candlelit, but not with the paraffin candles that she was used to. These candles were real bee's wax candles! There had never been a period in her reality where bee's wax candles were cheap. Even in their golden age, only the nobility and church could afford them. She had trouble reconciling the fantastic cooking, and the quality items such as the candles with the dirt and rags of the servers. This world reminded her of a television set her grandfather owned. It was an old-fashioned tube set, and had a saturation knob. The saturation knob was turned just a bit to the right - flowers as bright and maybe unnatural as those in a children's coloring book, exceptional food, and true squalor if one was unlucky. The waitress served Roger a roast that was steeped with vegetables and gravy. Roger wolfed three quarters of it down before he took a break.
