Following the Wall

The Black Void - Episode 6330

You decide to start by following the terrarium wall. That way, if you don't succeed in finding a black void at least you will learn how large your prison is. To do that, you will need to recognise when you have returned to your starting point. Since one patch of jungle looks much like another as far as you are concerned, you decide to use some item that you can see through the transparent wall, You spot what appears to be a sign on top of a post. Although you can't read it (you guess that it probably says something along the lines of "this terrarium contains creatures from the planet Earth"), it is distinctively shaped. You hope that there won't be any more signs with that shape.

  1. You make a complete circuit (the wall doesn't have any corners but must curve gradually) without finding a black void. It takes you about five hours, so you reckon the circumference must be very roughly twelve miles and hence the diameter about four.
  2. You manage to find a black void. But if the last one took you to what seems to be an alien world, what are the odds that this one will take you back to Earth rather than to yet another planet? You fear that they may not be all that good.
  3. You don't find a black void. But you don't complete the circuit because...
