Mechanical Menace
The Black Void - Episode 590

An imposing, ugly robot stands before you, 8 feet tall and carrying a
nasty-looking weapon. Its body shows significant grit and debris, and a
number of scorch marks. Its cone-like has a number of glowing red eyes
inside a black "visor," which ends in a series of vents which hum softly.
It has a long, thin box for a torso, with faintly glowing green
alphanumeric sequence displayed on a LCD mounted where the skin that leads
to the human heart would be. It has long, yet sturdy legs, which terminate
in 4-pointed pincers attached to half-sphere foot pads. Its arms are
similar in length, but end in 6-fingered hands with two opposable thumbs
(one on each side).
Your examination of this automaton stops when the machine notices you, its
red eyes converging into one giant red dot on its visor.
It raises its weapon and gets into a ready stance, the chest LCD flickering
as it does so. The entire complex rumbles, dust falls from the ceiling, and
the robot adjusts itself to the shaking enviroment. The machine motions for
you to put your hands behind your head and cooperate. You have no choice in
the matter, as another machine of the same make comes into the room and
inspects your person in what you assume is a routine search for weapons.
The second machine speaks, this one with the sequence A409201-F5 on its
chestplate. "Speak" isn't really an accurate term for what it does. It
emits a ear-piercing series of sounds which sound like English, albiet very
high-pitched English with pauses inbetween each word. "THIS. AREA.
IS. OFF. LIMITS. TO. CIVILIANS." Long pause here, with a click and whirr
coming from the servos of the first one, who has holstered its gun on its
back. "IF. YOU. ARE. IN. NEED. OF. MEDICAL." Long pause. "TREATMENT." Long
pause. "OR. REQUIRE. A. DOCTOR." Short pause and a brief blue flash from
its "eyes." "YOU. ARE. ADVISED. TO. FOLLOW. ME."
You aren't particularly hurt, but you haven't had a medical checkup in a
while. Of course, you don't know what the hell is going on, either.
