"You are the only one we need," the man answered. He continued with a grin, "the rest have been taken to our village to replenish our food storage."

Pierre suddenly realized he was alone against these fanatic cannibals. He hastily drew his sword and held it up in front of him. The black man did not move an inch.

"I'll need a dinghy and some supplies," Pierre said calmly. "If you give me that, I'll leave without hurting any of you."

To his great surprise, the man threw his head back and laughed hard. "You actually think you can get away from us, don't you?" he said when he recovered. "Well, in that case - come on!" He shifted his weight and held the knife out in front of him, ready to fight.

1. Pierre destroyed the cannibal with a single mighty blow.
2. Pierre turned around and tried to cut his way through the crowd of cannibals to get to a boat.
3. Pierre carefully neared the cannibal, waiting for him to strike first.
