Amergin and Sarah did not know what to do. They had been too taken aback by the unexpected appearance of Kipper and Kendra, whom they had believed to be far away. Perhaps an even bigger shock had been to discover that the two had been working together the whole time, when Kendra had given such a convincing impression of hating Kipper. So now they stood in the bottom of the pit and gawked up at their tormentors, struggling to come to a decision.

However Golemskrieg had no such inhibitions. That these two small creatures were treating his friends with a total lack of respect was enough for him. It only took him a matter of seconds to work up into a berserker rage. His eyes glowing red and his strength far greater than its (already considerable) normal level, he burst out of the pit ready to tear the kenders limb from limb.

  1. And duly did so.
  2. But Sarah, guessing what was about to happen and not wanting the deaths of even these two on her conscience, screamed: "No, Golemskrieg!"
  3. But Golemskrieg's agility did not match his strength, and he found it impossible to lay a hand on his elusive quarry.
