I retreat up the stairs to my room, anxious for a chance to rest and think
things over. What could it mean? Is Naomi living in my world, or elsewhere?
What was that facility I encountered, and how does it relate to the
black void? Perhaps the river wasn't the crossing point, as I originally
thought. Could there be some way to go back, then? It certainly warrants
further investigation. But first, I'll have to find my way out of the
predicament I'm in, and for now that means playing Anorkin's game.
And speaking of games, I'm in for a surprise upon returning to my room. I was eager to get out of this sackcloth dress and into something more comfortable. But, upon opening the wardrobe, I find that ALL the garments within have been changed into the same coarse material! Sensing a looming presence, a whirl and find Anorkin standing at the doorway, a smug look on his face. "Just how long am I going to have to wear these things?" I ask angrily. He chuckles. "Only as long as it takes for you to learn a spell to turn them into something else. Consider it a source of...motivation, for your studies, which will commence tomorrow. Really, it should be a trivial spell for someone of your natural ability, but as you've had no formal training, it could take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks." "Weeks?" I repeat. Right now, the only 'motivation' I feel is the one to wring Anorkin's neck, but the fear of being shrunk again (or worse) keeps me from saying anything more. "Well, if you're really that uncomfortable wearing sackcloth, you are perfectly free to go about naked." "I'm sure I'll manage with these...garments." I say, ignoring his lecherous grin. Anorkin nods, then departs.
