I feel so angry at Anorkin's threat that I momentarily forget about my
dream. I hadn't liked what he had been proposing even before this. If I'm
capable of magic, then I would like to receive training, but not in
exchange for living a lie in order to advance his own position.
I get to my feet. "Tomas wouldn't believe you," I say. "I'm leaving right away." But when I turn, stalk across the study and grab the door handle, I find that the door has somehow locked itself. "You're not going anywhere, my dear." Anorkin says darkly. As I turn back towards him, I see that he is waving his hands as if casting a spell. I know exactly what is going to happen next, but there is nowhere to run to, so I remain as motionless as I did in my dream. [3678] Sure enough, I shrink (and my clothes shrink with me). When I am about nine inches tall, Anorkin grabs me and - as in my dream - picks up a large bell-jar that is sitting on his desk and traps me under it. "That should keep you secure," he says. In spite of the glass between us I can hear him perfectly well. "You can reflect on the foolishness of resisting my will. Meanwhile I will go and brief the dragon rider. There's enough air in the jar to last you for at least a couple of hours, so don't fret. I should be back within ten minutes or so. Then we'll have a little chat." He leaves the room.
