Jacques and the co-pilot, Steve, decide they want nothing to do with the
foreboding ship. They also agree it wouldn't be right to leave the pilot
and the passengers behind. Jacques climbs into the passenger cabin and
helps Steve quickly and as carefully as possible carry the four
(fortunately all male) passengers down into his speedboat before turning
their attention to the pilot. When they they are all secured as possible,
Jacques gunned the idling engine and sped away from the wooden boat and
the seaplane. Though Loire was closer, he decided to head back to the
Bahamas instead. He figured he had enough fuel for that. The Black Void seemed to have other ideas, however. Steve noticed that she had changed course and was following them. Considering her seemingly impossible turn of speed, it wouldn't take long for her to catch up with them. Even though she had a sail, the speed she was going seemed to indicate an engine or engines of some kind. Perhaps that was what was generating the noise they heard. Jacques' speedboat was doing, what, 35 knots? He could probably squeeze a few more knots if he tried. Not that that would help much, he mused.
