To no avail. “My dear, doltish Duncan,” Wanda taunted him. “There’s a powerful spell binding that door shut. Do you really think your petty attempts to open it will work? After all these years you’re still such an amateur, compared to me. But I still love you.” Saliva dribbled down her hairy chin. Duncan took a deep breath and focused his mind. He tried to remind himself that he had faced Wanda before and escaped in one piece - although the mental scars inflicted on him during those dire years were still as fresh as ever, and festering with the infection of time. ‘Time wounds all heals’ as the old saying went. “Wanda, my darling,” he said with some difficulty. “I wasn’t trying to escape. It’s just that...do you really think this is the appropriate setting for our...,” he took another deep breath, “... sweet lovemaking?”Even in the darkness of their horrid setting there was a mischievous glint in the hag’s bulbous, rose-red eyes. “But my darling,” she teased him, “I thought you like it dirty! Remember that time...” Duncan cleared his throat abruptly. “Of course I remember, my love,” he interrupted her. As much as I try not to, he thought ruefully, but had the good sense not to say. And if this withered old prune thinks I don’t have a million other tricks up my sleeve, then she’s stupider than she looks. I’ll find a way out of this mess somehow...“And I’m not as stupid as you look,” Wanda casually remarked, waggling her fingers mystically. “Your mind is still like an open book,” she spat. Her eyes were still twinkling with evil vivacity. “Well if you won’t give yourself to me willingly then I’ll just take what I want!”
