I wake up a bit sore after yesterday's long walk. We have a small
breakfast and prepare to set out. Unlike yesterday, which was mild and
mostly sunny, today has dawned cold and rainy (as is common for fall days
in Northern Laralia)
The rain alternates between drizzle and downpour for most of the day, turning the well-travelled dirt road into a soggy, muddy mess. We pass by more than a few carriages whose wheels became stuck in the mud. My outfit offers little protection from the wind and rain, and while Baras is gentleman enough to lend me his cloak, it's made of cloth and isn't anything like waterproof. What I would give for a cheap plastic windbreaker right now! It's been so long since having such simple, modern convienences, and I've learned to do without. But some things you just don't miss until you really need them. By midmorning the cloak, as well as my scant outfit underneath, is soaked through to the skin. My slippers, already worn out from yesterday's trek, have fallen completely apart. We trudge on despite our discomfort. As evening approaches, we finally come to an inn. We haven't gone as far as I'd hoped, despite travelling for longer than yesterday. But I'm exhausted and drenched, and the weather shows no sign of letting up. "Let's stop here." I say. Baras gives no argument.
