Red Danger's Unexpected Ally

The Black Void - Episode 321

"Scroll down a bit...a bit more...up, no wait, that just looks similar, down some more...a little more..."

"Hi honey. What'd I miss?" From your position, you can't turn around to see the person who just walked in, but you've heard that voice somewhere. You remember now...it's...Rhonda Sellers?

"Oh, nothing yet, Rhonda darling. Mr. Book here," he spits your name in disgust, "was just about to tell us where he hid the bug in the code."

"But Augustus, we fixed that months ago." Rhonda may be on the side of Red Danger now, but she's giving you critical time you need to escape.

"What?" Red Danger is flustered; obviously, someone in his organization has been withholding information from him. "Then why hasn't it been working?"

"One of your moron programmers insisted we test the program to make sure he didn't put any other bugs in. We lost everything. We were able to salvage the file, but it was all corrupted. We've been working since then to put everything back to normal."

"But then why did no one tell me?"

"Fear, Augustus. We all know about the penalty for failure. There is, however, no penalty for delayed success." You can't see it, but you know that right now Rhonda is giving Red Danger that seductive smile you had grown so used to.

"So it's done then?"

"Right...on...your...laptop." You've got to admit, she's got a way with men. She had you hooked, didn't she? Maybe, just maybe, she's still working for your side.

The sound of footsteps, followed by the sight of Red Danger closing the laptop right in front of your face, indicates that your time's up. You're no closer to getting out of this place than you were before.

"Well, Mr. Book, it looks like you've outlived your usefulness. Now I can go ahead with my scheme for world domination. Fill the tank." A scream suddenly reminds you of Miss Sweetheart's presence. "And turn that table saw on. I had a more elaborate death plan for you, Mr. Book, but I think slowly, helplessly, advancing towards the instrument of your death will be good enough."

Part of you wants to yell at Miss Sweatheart to stop screaming, but that's no way to go out. "Mr. Danger, before you kill me, I'd like to ask you a question."

"Oh, I suppose I can grant a condemned man a last request."

"How'd you do it with Rhonda? Stockholm syndrome?"

Danger laughs a hearty laugh, not quite an evil laugh, but one indicating what you just said was hilarious. "Oh my dear Mr. Book, you couldn't be farther from the truth. Let's play a little guessing game, shall we, since I'm still in a good mood. Who else can you think of with the last name of Sellers?"

Let's see. There was the guy you roomed with in college, Tom Sellers. There was that random guy you met at a bar that one time, Jake Sellers. There was the girl you had a crush on in seventh grade, what was her name, Jenny Sellers. No, none of those make any sense. Then it hits you. Spycatcher's real name is Simon Sellers!

"I see you've figured it out, Mr. Book."

"But...but she can't be married to him."

Another hearty laugh. "Mr. Book, your insight only rivals your intelligence. She is, in fact, his little sister. And single. But not for long. You see, Mr. Book, when we go out to celebrate our victory tonight, I intend to ask her to marry me. And of course she'll say yes. You'd be invited to the wedding, but I'm afraid corpses wouldn't go over too well with some of the guests." He laughs again; this time it's the evil one. You have a sinking feeling more time is not for sale.

Some machinery starts moving, and you feel yourself being slowly carried towards a power saw ready to split open your skull. Quick - you have to think of something quickly. And that woman's screams aren't helping you one bit.

  1. You finally think of a way to get out of this mess.
  2. Your way to get out of this mess consists of praying that Rhonda's playing Red Danger like she played you. Miraculously, your prayer is answered.
  3. Your way to get out of this mess consists of praying that Rhonda's playing Red Danger like she played you. Unsurprisingly, it's not answered.
