Entering the small office, you pluck the professionally made Help
Wanted sign from the window and hold it up in front of you as you
approach the desk, which turns out to be manned (or whatever the
appropriate term is) by a little green fellow.
He - you assume it's a he or the nearest equivalent - nods, takes the sign from you and holds it up next to a piece of cardboard with "HelP wAntEd" scribbled on it in crayon. "Which of these would you most likely respond to?" "That one." You point out the one you did, in fact, respond to. "Precisely. Under what circumstances would you consider responding to the other?" "Well, if there wasn't anything else, and if they paid well..." "Wrong. The right answer is 'none whatsoever'." You must look puzzled, for the clerk actually takes the time to explain. "We, meaning this station, are having problems with shady characters abusing the job market for green slavery. I suppose you would call it white slavery. While establishments may still announce vacancies by the traditional means of putting a sign in the window, they have to be cleared by this office first. After they check out, we send someone to put an official sign - like this one - in their window. That will be your job. Also to be on the lookout for unauthorized signs."
