Lying to Danger

"An extra parenthesis?" Red Danger thinks about this for a moment, then frowns. "Don't play games with me, Mr. Book. Any novice programmer can catch a bug like that. I have some of the finest programmers in the world working for me, and they have spent months searching for your little altered line. Now tell me what and where it is!"

Damnation. You were counting on Red Danger to not be very knowledgeable about programming. You do have to suppress a chuckle at his calling his programmers "some of the finest programmers in the world", though. The bug you added wasn't that subtle. You keep your face straight, and spin another lie.

"Okay, okay, I'll tell you," you say, "Just don't hurt Miss Sweetheart. I changed a variable declared to be a float on the thirty seventh line to a variable declared to be a f1oat, with the numeral 1 in place of the letter l."

Red danger ponders this.

1. "Hmmm," he says, "That's very clever of you, Mr. Book."
2. "You're a slow learner, aren't you Mr. Book? I thought I told you not to play games with me."
