Accidents Will Happen

The guest - a middle-aged, overweight, red-faced man - lets out a profanity that is loud enough to cause every head in the room to turn in our direction. Then he says: "You clumshy idiot! I'm soaked!" He draws back his arm and I think for a moment that he is going to hit me.

Then Gustav is at his side, grabbing his arm. "Calm down, Felix," he says. "It was just an unfortunate accident."

"She should have bloody well looked where she wash going!"

"Perhaps, but so should you." Gustav turns back to me. "Don't just stand there, girl! Go and get a towel."

There is one behind the bar, so I go and fetch it and dry Felix off as best I can. Eventually he says: "That'll do," and goes off, still grumbling to anyone who will listen.

I switch to using the towel on myself, but Gustav stops me. "You don't have time for that," he says. "There's been enough delay. People are waiting for their drinks."

"Yes sir," I say, and return to my duties. Those areas of my outfit that are wet - which amounts to most of the front of both the top and the skirt - are clearly delineated, as the pale green has turned a much darker shade. At least the silk hasn't turned semi-transparent, as I was afraid that it might, but it is clinging to me like a second skin.

1. Thankfully that proves to be the low point of the evening. My outfit soon dries out and nothing else goes wrong. And eventually I do manage to overhear something of interest.
2. One of the drunker guests, inspired by the accident, thinks that it would be fun to take the large pitcher of water that is standing on the bar and empty it over my head.
3. As the guests get drunker, the groping gets worse. I decide to complain to Gustav in the hope that he will put a stop to it.
