"Had a bad experience, eh?"

"You could say that."

"You don't, by any chance, know how to read or write?" he asks.

"Of course I do!"

"Really! That's a useful skill. I know how to as well, but you'd be surprised at how many can't here in Laralia. It's especially rare for working class folks, even more so for women. Usually, those women who are fortunate enought to learn are usually well off enough not to have to work anyway, or are married."

I shake my head, reminded again how different this world is from my own.

"Well, this could be beneficial - In fact, I have a contact in the ministry of law. They may be able to hire you as a copyist. There's always large demand for the accurate copying of legal documents and the like. The pay isn't anything spectacular, but I'd venture it's more than you'd make as a barmaid. Go to the north end of the city tomorrow morning. The ministry's offices are in the Grand Hall. Ask for Cornelius, and tell him I sent you. He's my uncle, so he should be able to help you out."

"Thank you for your kindness and advice." I say. A few moments later, we reach the inn where I'm staying. The watchman (Harry, just like me, I remind myself) turns to me and says:

1. "Good luck tomorrow." I return to my room to sleep and prepare for the next day
2. "Umm,,,,I'd like to see you again sometime." he blushes. Is he trying to ask me out?
