A Dark Stranger

The Black Void - Episode 2724

Sarah searched her mind desperately for a solution. Pretending to be their princess wouldn‘t work; they’d think she was “confused”. She searched the deepest burrows of her mind but found nothing; her mind was a blank slot. So she had no choice but to do as the commanded.

...Time passes...

They’d been traveling for two days now, almost three. Despite all that was happening, Sarah was very grateful to wear more suitable clothing. She now wore a long silk snow white dress stitched lightly with patterns of lilies, clean stockings, a set of leather shoes, and new under wearing (She blushed when this was given to her). Her hair was cleaned and hung to her shoulders. It had an aroma of roses.

“We should be home by nightfall, princess.” said the same gray- haired elf who first talked to her, who’s name she learned to be Ecthelion.

“That’s good,” said Sarah dully, staring down at the dirt road. Only minutes ago, they’d finished their (coffee less) breakfast, and Sarah felt her stomach waver; she never should have eaten that bear meat. She would have liked to get her mind off her sickness, but what was their to get her mind off on? Their were only dirt and trees-fucking tree and tree after tree! How she learned to loathe them after looking for them for hour on end. “You’ll love them once again like you used to when you were a youngling.” Ecthelion had told her, but she thought it would take more than magic to get her to love nature. Forget the trees: they could chop down the whole forest as long as they built a Starbucks over it.

The only times that were somewhat interesting was when they passed other travels. Sarah would have very much liked it if they had stopped and chatted, but neither the traveler nor the elves were did any more than spare a glance at each other.

“Why don’t the other elves ever talk?” she asked, more out of boredom than curiosity. The only time they spoke was when they were giving her food or talking to Ecthelion..

“What is there to speak about?” Ecthelion asked back.

“You know, common stuff, like how their days are going, riding, friends, issues, spor-hunting. The ride wouldn’t be so boring if everyone would talk.”

“But they only speak elvish, so you wouldn’t even understand them.”

“True, but---”

“And we consider it dishonorable to speak when a royal is present and cannot hear or understand what’s being said.”

Sarah sighed “I never understood this thing called “honor.” I don’t see what makes a king or queen any different from the average Joe.”

“Joe is not worthy to carry your shoes. You will why soon princess.”

Sarah also doubted that. Even so, she was grateful for this elf’s company and mercy. He answered all of Sarah’s questions and when she asked that Amergin be allowed to ride with one of the elves as well as be treated better, he obliged.

“Mathil de ithe!” one of the elves up ahead yelled in a sharp tone. He said that every time they were met somebody else on the road. Sarah looked ahead. She expected to see another ranger or bard, but this person…or she thought more of a figure, was different. It wore a long black hooded cloak which covered its whole body. Sarah couldn’t see the figure’s face; everything within the hood was shrouded in darkness.

“Seit!” Ecthelion ordered and all of the elves came to a halt. Perhaps it was his dark appearance of the figure or its gray stallion’s cold look, but whatever the case, the figure sent welcoming chills down Sarah’s spine.

“Finally something interesting.” she thought, although she was glad to have a large group of warriors surrounding her at the moment. Finally, the figure halted in front of the three front elves.

“State your name and your business stranger!” Ecthelion yelled.

  1. The stranger begins to speak.
  2. The stranger jerks over and sprints off into the woods.
  3. Suddenly, the stranger pulls a sword out of its cloak and attacks.
