My New Name

"There's enough of the black dye left for your skirt and top," Teran tells me as I'm getting dressed. "It's unlikely that they would be recognised, but it's best not to take the risk. We'd better dye them just before going to bed this evening, so that they can dry overnight and be ready to wear in the morning. Now, shall we go down to the bar and have dinner?"

My last experience of an inn makes me feel a little nervous, but I haven't eaten since my meal at Kendrick's almost twelve hours ago and am very hungry. "All right," I say, wrapping my robe around me.

Fortunately this inn is a lot quieter than the other. As we eat, I try to come up with a new name to go with my new look, feeling that any variation on "Harriet" might not be safe. I want a name that is in common use in Artazia, but the only female names that I'm aware of are those of the other concubines plus Nadia from Zal's inn. Wait, I do know one more name, that of the barmaid who preceded me there. [2080] "I need a new name," I say. "How about Ilsa? Is that a common name?"

Teran nods approvingly. "Yes, that will do very well."

"So how are we going to find Don?"

  1. "If he's been looking for you, then he may have managed to trace you to that inn you told me about. If so, then you might be able to get in touch with him through them."
  2. "I haven't the faintest idea."
  3. "We'll start by asking Captain Usman. His guards may have heard something."
  4. "I have a rather shady friend who has very good contacts in the city."
