Bar-room Brawl

The Black Void - Episode 2366

In less than a minute it seems that everyone in the place is involved in the fight. Everyone except for me, that is. I back into a dark corner out of the way, hoping that I can remain unnoticed until the fracas is over and that "my side" will win. I wonder how the brawlers can possibly tell who is friend and who is foe in such a free-for-all.

Should I try to slip out and alert the old soldier who has been acting as our coachman and who is presumably still waiting outside? Unless he has heard the din and come into the bar already? I haven't spotted him amongst the fighters, though.

This train of thought is interrupted by a voice from out of the gloom. Apparently not everyone is involved in the fight after all. "Look what you've started! You'd be safer outside. Follow me. There's a back way out that I'll show you."

I dimly see the man rise from his seat. I follow him as he heads along the back wall and then opens a door, politely letting me go through it first.

  1. I emerge into the open air, on the opposite side of the tavern to where our coach is parked. "Thank you," I say. "Don't mention it," he replies.
  2. I'm surprised to find myself in what seems to be a storeroom, dimly lit by a small oil lamp. The man follows me in and closes the door behind him. I see that he has a wicked-looking knife in his hand. "Don't even think of calling for help," he warns.
